Could government run out of money in six weeks? – Updated 11/8

That is what Peter Bunting is suggesting and Audley Shaw is furious !

Audley is suggesting that  this is simply not true and that the budget is fully funded until March 31, 2011. He said  Mr Bunting was being highly irresponsible in his comments which is designed to create panic not only in Jamaica but also on the international scene as a time when the economy has stabilized and the country is registering some growth.

He has called for Mr Bunting to apologize and withdraw that irresponsible statement. He went unto say that the World Bank granted some $US 100M  in loan just a few weeks ago, which suggested that their is no fundamental disagreement between Jamaica and the IMF.

Mr Shaw is saying the statement was design to create panic at a time when the GOJ is supposed to make good payment to the public sector worker in December 2011.

Is Peter being disingenoous or is is Audley Shaw lying?

The last time Peter spoke he was correct and the GOJ later said there was problem and repeated exactly what Peter had reported.

We shall see who is lying in a few weeks.

UPDATE – November 8, 2012  @ 5:52pm

Peter Bunting has indicated he was only speculating when he made the statement in some “back bush “of Spaulding and did not expect Audley Shaw’s response.

  1. It will probably come down to a fudge.

Bunting can say that he said the Jamaican government COULD run out of money, not that he said it WOULD.

Shaw will probably have some excuse as to why Christmas payments won’t be as large as expected and that workers will definitely, probably, absolutely, (almost?) certainly get the balance next year in a lump sum which they should think of as a bonus.

  2. Now do some research and tell us because the money that the electoral commission got was not in the budget, where does that money come from, are we going to see another supplementary budget. all areas in gvnt show that it has not meet its budget from april to october

  3. The Election money was definately not in the Budget. Where will it come from? Does the Fiscal responsibility Act truly prevent budgeted expenditure. Let us hear from Audley Shaw on this issue.

  4. Shaw and David Smith are two eediat. Anyone who is comfortable with Shaw at bthe helm of Min. of Finance is nothing lore than a fool…even if it is Christine Lagarde.

Shaw recommending persons to “invest” with David Smith and his crp on the Australian model should have the holders of capital petrified if the have sense.

Take it to back bush take it to Washington take it to Bejing I challenge anyone around to refute what I say….including Shaw but he will never face me to debate that.
