The current administrations is making all the right moves

Yesterday, the PAAC heard good news which has been in the making for sometime. The PIOJ Director General Dr Wayne Henry reported that the growth rate for the first fiscal quarter for 2018/2019  was a respectable 2.2% beating their own estimate of 1.8% by 400 basis points.

The last time Jamaica experienced anything like this was in 2016(JLP) and before that 2009(JLP) , which is my view is tells a remarkable story.

At the same time, the finance minister told us our fiscal surplus was ahead of target, while the Professor Gorden Shirley reported on the same day that the largest cruise liner ever to grace the shores of Jamaica had docked in Ocho Rios.

In addition to the above, we were given employment figures which indicates that as of the end of the last quarter Jamaica  had more people employed than at any other period is its history.

With 3 SOE  and two ZOSO in place , Jamaica has seen a significant fall off in serious crimes especially murders, as criminals who once ruled the streets, have gone into retreat, hoping these special operations will end soon.

The Jamaica dollar yesterday traded below $135 for the first time in two  months bringing an end to the depreciation which had characterized the movement of the dollar between July and August.

Just a week ago the reputable rating firm  S&P upgraded Jamaica’s economic outlook from stable to positive.

On the agricultural side, Jamaica exported its first shipment of medical marijuana , which is nothing short of a miraculous turn of events for marijuana .

I am Twitter quite frequently and one thing I have observed during all of  this, is the failure of the opposition to recognize and acknowledge the work of the people of this country in turning around the economic fortunes of the country, which will bring benefit to all, that is sad and really shows lack of political maturity from the Dr Phillips lead PNP.

The above shows that the Andrew Holness led JLP in just 2.5 years have engineered a remarkable turn around in many of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) of this country and its for the us to continue to build this country, so the journey can continue to move people from poverty to prosperity.

We must commit over the next 25 years under a JLP lead government to move the poverty rate form approx 33% down to less than 10%.

Yes, we can do it if we stick to a disciplined approach and do not get sidelined by naysayers who wants to leave the status quo in tact to secure their loyal voter base and keep these people enslaved in garrison life.

Lets put Jamaica first once and for all.

Bless

Dr Horace Chang is correct.

Last week Dr Chang in providing historical context into how the current police force came to be where it is, said among other things ” the current force is beyond repair”.  Truth be told, it take guts from any Minister to say this, but this is exactly what he did. The fact is unless we are open and honest in our recognition of a problem and is willing to call it as it is, there is no chance the problem will ever be fixed.

Now that Dr Chang has laid it bare , we hope the Federation gets on board quickly so we can have a fighting chance of replacing the broken system, with something that no longer just works to protect the rich, but works for all concerned.

Seems the police federation wants to maintain the status quo and try a piece meal approach which cannot address the problem.

I am surprised Fitz Jackson has not yet jumped up to support the police federation, since that support would be in opposition to the government. I will give him another 48 hrs to lend his support to the police federation.
