50 years increase intime access to cabinet documents, why ?

This morning I wrote on Twitter

After 4 years of outstanding performance with the economy and governance, the Holness administrations decides its time to F#@K it up. Carry on !! Elections are not won doing crap like this EXPLAIN , APOLOGIZE and the withdraw this ABSURDITY

I have however been giving this some more thought and have come to the realization that , there was something missing from my thought process .

Firstly the parliamentary opposition have been largely silent on this matter despite the general public being outraged by what appears to be something quite odd in this ministerial order which has been signed by the Prime Minister.

In reviewing all the information thus far, I have come to realization, that while the rest of the country were shocked and appeared to have been caught off guard, the opposition members including the opposition leader was NOT surprised when Karl Samuda presented the order.

The only reason this could have been so , is the government and the opposition would have been in dialogue about the changes and have agreed to make changes which would deny us access to cabinet discussions.

To further bolster my theory I went back and had a look at what documents would now be available for public consumption and recognized that given the 20 year rule, cabinet discussions from 1999 when the PNP was in office would now be accessible ( or soon to be ) to the general public.

It therefore would appear to me that both the government and the opposition have conspired against the people of Jamaica and is ensuring that those documents since 1999 should not get in the hands of the public until members on both sides of the house are dead.

What on earth could they want to hide from the public.

CommonsenseJa is hoping that the journalist will seek to access documents from Jan 2 – Sept 30, 2019 given that at least some of these would be available for access . This would provide us with an insight into what was taking place at the time .

Commonsenseja is also demanding the Holness stop protecting the PNP and withdraw the ministerial order without delay.

The PM should also schedule a press conference no later than Friday, Oct 4, 2019 to explain the reason for the consideration in the first place , these are some questions for the PM

  1. Are you trying to protect members of the opposition and if so why
  2. Are there documents if when released could impact our relationship with our major trading partners
  3. Are there documents that if released could harm the national security of the nation .
  4. Are there documents if when released could harm the reputation of the business community eg the financial sector.

The public would certainly accept that where the release of certain documents could have a profoundly negative impact on the country , these could be barred from release or alternatively significantly redacted versions of these could be released to the public .

Lets’s remove this order and have a discusion on the way forward
