$5,000 would get you a vote in Central Westmoreland elections.

Vote buying is said to be illegal in Jamaica, but that does not stop the wide spread practice from happening on either side of the political divide. In the recently concluded by election, at least one person offered a figure as to how much it would cost anyone to get them to vote either way.

Question ” So who much would it cost for a vote”

Answer ” Well mi would a tek $5000 eno”

Question ” Why $5,000″

Answer ” Well mi light bill a $6,000 fi d month, so d 5 gran could at least pay part a d bill”

Question ” Did you know that vote buying is illegal”

Answer ” Well d ole a dem a dweet a nuh mi one, so a nuh nuttin”

Question ” So who would you vote for if paid”

Answer ” Well, anyone who pay mi”.

Issue do not matter, corruption, lack of representation, poor governance nothing matters to the hardcore who goes out and vote, they vote for a specific party. There are those on the other hand who will simply vote for a “food”, for these people it does not matter if they feast today and fast tomorrow, as long as ” dsem eat a food ofa you dem good”

This is what we call democracy!

It is no wonder the economic situation in Jamaica is not getting better. We have lumpen who vote for a dog if its green or orange, those who vote based on how much money the get and then the articulate minority who has the swing votes, but does not participate in the electoral process.

  1. Where do you sign up for the 5000 ?. Cause it would indicate than the candidate would have to have at least 50 Million to win at that price
