Portia goes into to hiding as the NHT scandals threatens the survival of her administration.

Portia Simpson Miller is an amazing Prime Minister. It is the first time I have seen a Prime Minister of a democratic Jamaica who is so afraid of speaking to the media and to the general public especially in a time of crises. Instead she always chooses to send someone to speak on her behalf or refer the media to her portfolio minister as she tries to shield herself from the public.

The Prime Minister is the portfolio Minister under which the NHT falls and with Portia unable to send the media to the “Minister” she chooses to hide, refusing to speak or act in her capacity as the “Prime” Minister.

This cowardly act by the Prime Minister once again highlights her incapacity to lead this country. Real leaders steps forward in moments of crises and takes charge, they act decisively to quickly restore order and credibility to the administration, but not this Prime Minister, who instead runs and hides and hope the nine day wonder syndrome will set in and it will soon be forgotten.

Portia could have easily protected herself and the administration by asking the entire board to resign in the public interest, without accusing them of any wrong doing, but state it is being done in order for transparency and to allow for a full investigation, without the existing board member being there to possible interfere with those investigations.

It is clear and as always been clear to me that, Portia Simpson Miller was always a wannabee leader, one who wanted to become Prime Minister, but not do the work required of this position. Having failed to keep tabs on what is going on she is always delegating the responsibilities without the requisite followups but now, she finds herself in a position, where she was was not only responsible but also accountable in relation to the NHT and failed on both accounts.

Portia failure is  all of her own doing, as while we all know she was never the brightest bulb on the shelf, she always moved to insulate herself from what is going on and does not appeared to have spent enough time trying to understand the operations of her own ministry much less that of the others.

She cannot blame anyone for her colossal failure here, as it is clear she does not know how to manage and if she did she would have designed systems to ensure that she is kept informed of what is going on even at a a superficial level, but have the details on hand if called upon to explain to the country what is taking place.

I think the Prime Minister must now do the honourable  thing and resign and leave this sordid mess behind, which threatens to destroy her record after over 40 years in representational politics. I am not sure Portia can salvage her political career from here and she missed a glorious opportunity to show true leadership by failing to dismiss the NHT board. Portia is now tainted by the NHT scandal and has exhibited poor judgement and leadership up to this point on this matter.

Portia, please do us a favour and dismiss the board, then pack your bags and go, you can still salvage your political career from here and become the first Prime Minister to accept full responsibility for letting down your people and show true grit and humility by offering your resignation.
