Jamaica’s economic situation is far more precarious than we are being told.

I have come across certain information, which has suggested that the economic situation facing Jamaica in the uncertainty of an IMF deal is  lot worse than we are being told.

The opposition JLP is holding back and not telling the people of Jamaica what is really going on,  [as]word is it could result in sheer panic, especially in the financial sector, which we simply cannot afford at this time.

I will not say more than that at this stage and I do hope the opposition continues to act responsibly, because at the end of the day ” we all in e”. At the same time I do hope we can get a deal sealed up early in 2013.

I am worried however that appears to be no plan beyond the IMF deal and that is indeed cause for concern.

  1. Jay, what is your exit strategy if the IMF deal falls apart? Most of the Opposition members and the elites have their second home in Florida and most of their money OSJ (outside of Jamaica) and it seems, are sequestering even more OSJ (see you black market post). Maybe it is time you start listening to your nine year daughter and leave….wait…I think you left already 😀

  2. I see business confidence is on the rise, wow, I wonder what is the basis for that.
On the IMF deal, we must get one.
No contrary to popular belief I have not left yet, just watching and see, but its certainly on the table.

  3. How come Audley a talk d ting, when it supposed to be hush hush.

“My credible information is that this new agreement that is negotiated, only the remaining US$400 million that is from the old agreement will be available in the new agreement,” Shaw told journalists at a media briefing at the JLP’s Belmont Road headquarters in Kingston yesterday

AGO STOP hold mi tongue and talk d tings dem

  4. This is really sad no matter how the spinners want to spin it. As the country seems to try and move forward, we always try to find a way to reverse. Reminds me of the old saying: ‘Politicians, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, they build more tunnel’.

I still don’t understand why it is that we have to be in this situation. Is it that the people in charge or incompetent or corrupt? Someone don’t seem to understand that once the country prospers, everyone benefits.

I should have known that this was on the cards ever since I saw the BOJ ‘mopping up’ liquidity.

  5. Shaw has the nerve to be mentioning the “old agreement”, the same one that he dishonoured.

    • Its interesting that when you folks bad mouth members of the JLP its just fine, but as soon as someone is critical of the PNP its such a big deal.

See the problem with our politics, we expect people to be tolerant of our position, but so many of us does not reciprocate this.

Mich this is not directed at you, its a general comment.

      • I dont understand your point Jay. Did Shaw dishonour the previous IMF agreement? He has no moral authority to talk about the IMF. It is because of the 6 for 9 that the IMF got from the JLP why they are now insisting on prior actions before releasing any funds – we have Shaw to thank for that, and now he comes running up his big mouth.

My real concern, though, is the posture adopted by many which seem to be that the IMF is the only game in town. I am dismayed that no home grown solutions are being put on the table.

        • PNP is bankrupt of ideas Mich, they say IMF will facilitate growth, the IMF. Ideas have been mooted but being a populist leader PSM will never do the right thing, if it means loss of votes

    • … and Peter Phillips has made it clear that it is a totally new agreement and the old one was abandoned. Yet another egg on the face of OAudley Shaw. When will this guy learn to gather his facts first and then speak. He speaks first and then go in search of his facts. …. Very embarrassing I must say.

Jay, it is my understanding that you have the ear of Shaw, could you offer him some useful advice about the order of things? That advice would surely be beneficial to both of you, since you are so quick to publish his many public gaffes. 🙂

      • Why do you think Peter is correct. Is it simply because he is PNP? Politicians lie so what make Dr Phillips so believable ?

If Obama ran the same election ran in USA in Jamaica against the PNP, he would have LOST !

  7. Dr Peter Phillips have some nerve hear is what he was reported to have said at a rotary meeting.
He contended that in order for this to happen, there needs to be national consensus and coalescence on some “fundamental” issues, one of which is the IMF. In the same vein, he urged persons to refrain from engaging in efforts to try to “talk down” the economy or “create an atmosphere of doubt, hysteria and fear” in the face of the challenging circumstances.

It appears that Dr Phillips forgot that after the PNP lost in 2007, PSM promised the electorate and I quote ” I will be your worst nightmare”. She meant it and so it was from then even to today.
