The USA Embassy is reporting a bumper year raking in an estimated $3b in application fees as Jamaicans bomb rush the embassy for that coveted USA Visa.
The report from the embassy is reporting that this is the highest rate of application in nearly 20 years, more than doubling the annual average application rate.
Ian Hayles on a political platform recently reported that since the PNP has been returned to power a growing number of Jamaicans have been making application for USA visa.
The doubling of applications to the USA embassy is no doubt a ringing endorsement of the PNP management of the Jamaican economy, which is boasting its lowest inflation in over 40 years and a debt that is declining.
Clearly while the business sector and financial analyst are signing praises, the ordinary Jamaicans are seeking ways to get that visa which offers them an opportunity to flee.

Are you saying that the increase in US visa application is an attempt to by Jamaicans to “better their lives”? We are talking about Visitor’s Visa…right? Yes, some people go to the US and work with while on their Visitor’s Visa (illegal), but there are very few jobs available for vistors and the US embassy would likely screen out those who are “high” flight risk (have no stable job in Jamaica).
The reality is that in the last year or so, the US Embassy have been issuing Visitor’s Visa in large numbers and the word has gotten out that the window of opportunity is at its best more so now than ever before. This is the word I got from a few people who where able to secure a Visas within the last 12 months, having being denied a multiple times before (with the same risk profile).
As usual, you chose to make every issue a political one, especially when it is targeted at the PNP and as net result in this case and other cases, is that you endup looking foolish in the process.

Maybe, just maybe, the point that Ian Hayles was attempting to get across to the public is that since the PNP regain power, more Jamaicans can now afford the Visa Application fee? Or is it that they are more likely to return after their visit (as oppose to absconding while visiting the USA)? 😀
It is interesting how you voluntarily elect to quote a Comrade, on a political platform, when you seek to bolster/strengthen your misguided views. Do you concede that the significant increase in (visitor’s) visa applicants has more to do with their perception of the likelihood of success these days than some silly reason, such as as indication of “flight” in order to escape harsh economic realities? A solid indicator of the latter would be the surge in applications for permanent residency, which normally has it’s origiin, OOJ (outside of Jamaica)?….. Yes?
This thread and subsequent post/implicit conclusions, are just another futile attempt to score political points, with embarrassing results.
Life rough, people spent $3b to seek visa, hoping to get away from the terrible conditions the country is facing today. This year was the highest in 20 years, clearly people are seeking to flee the PNP governance which has only made them poorer and poorer.
I cannot blame them of course, when life hard one must seek greener pastures and that is exactly what the people are doing.
