When Owen Ellington left and Dr Carl Williams was ushered into the post, I warned that way too much was being expected of the new COP and he would ultimately fail in our eyes.
In less than a year, that prediction has become a reality, as not only is crime in particular murder out of control and up by 20%, so is criminality in the police force.
What is interesting is that over the past few weeks its the citizens of Jamaica who have caught the thieves who just happens to be cops and not the cops catching the thieves.
One of the major difference I have observed between the tenure of Owen and Carl is, Owen was more visible and would be issuing new staff orders almost on a weekly basis as the circumstance change. I have not seen this yet from Dr Williams.
Pressure from the USA seemed to have been applied to remove Owen Ellington from his post, but that has not helped Jamaica at all, because we have had more people being murdered this year vs last year and I see no help coming from the USA to help us curtail murders in Jamaica.
Dr Williams needs to wheel and come again, because it is very clear that whatever strategies are being used by the police is NOT working.
The COP is a tough job, don’t get me wrong, but I see where Owen was making progress and that appears to have stalled and now the criminals are taking back the streets
