The case of the good suffering for the bad !

I listened with amazement at Junior Minister in Julian Robinson lashing the JPS and suggesting the “good” should not be paying for the sins on the “bad”.

I immediately asked, is that not what we have been doing for the last 50 yrs due to bad governance by these politicians or is it that Julian is too young to know this.

When government fails to meet its revenue target because only 20 – 25% of registered business are paying taxes, what does the government do ?

When government fails to meet its revenue target, because  90% of all the professionals in Jamaica either pay no or little taxes, what does the government do ?

When  60% of the residents of the country pay no land taxes, what does the government do?

When more than 50% of the income in this country is from the underground economy, what does the government of Jamaica do?

In every case mentioned above, the government goes after the “good” , ie the paying few and in so doing increases our tax burden , simply because it’s easier to do so that going after the many “bad” , who refuse to pay?

How are the actions of the JPS any different ?
