THE ENERGY INDEPENDENCE AND SECURITY ACT OF 2007 (H.R.6) says in Article IX
International Energy Programs
- Promotes US exports in clean, efficient technologies into India, China, and other developing countries.’
- Authorizes US Agency for International Development(USAID) to increase funding to promote clean energy technologies in developing countries.
Jamaica is desperately trying to bring energy cost down and China has proposed a coal fired Power Plant for Jamaica, in a bid to make the hub being proposed for goal island viable.
The United States via the EISA of 2007 has pledge to provide funding for developing countries to promote clean energy technologies.
EWI is proposing a 434MW LNG fired power plant for Jamaica and we in the know are aware that the cost for LNG out of Asia is more expensive than LNG out of North America.
USA is currently the largest producer of LNG in the world.
Given the above, will the Energy Minister  be asking the USA to put its money where it’s mouth is and agree to supply Jamaica with LNG for the next 20 yrs at concessionary prices ?
Over to the Energy Minister….
