The Government had plans to collect just over $16B from a poor a pauperized Jamaican population and so when it was announced that with only one quarter left in the fiscal year and we had a $12.4b shortfall I was not surprised.
Desperate for cash to meet IMF fiscal target, the government of Jamaica is seeking to add to already burden consumer by seeking to impose additional taxes on fuel, which could see increase prices at the pumps .
With petrol prices already at record high, any further increases will have a ripple effect on the economy, forcing prices upwards as well as inflation and would serve in increase the burden on the consumers.
No doubt this would mean higher electricity rates, higher transportation cost as this would be a cost that MUST be borne by the public.
This PNP administration, which has all the answers three years ago, all but has run out of ideas and the Prime Minister is of the belief that by not talking the problem is going to go away.
I will vehemently oppose any further tax and gas and is willing to go on the streets of Jamaica to voice my disgust at what is going on in this country.
Here we are giving money away like confetti, while the rest of population is being asked to pay for the largesse of other.
I have had enough of this horse manure.

Woooooooiii!
What would ever happen if Jamaicans had to pay European type taxes on fuel? We woulda ded!
Seriously though I don’t mind an increase in the tax on fuel. Hell increase GCT too (maybe to a flat 17%). But as part of the deal just decrease or remove income and corporate taxes.
I happened to meet with a tax consultant at a seminar a year ago and when asked about GCT @ 20% and zero income tax her respomnse was it would create major problems in ha since so many persons currently pay no income tax,
She explained their cost would rise and could lead to social unrest.
