Peter Bunting has come out swinging against a section of the media who he has accused of constantly disrespecting the Jamaican Prime Minister.
Mr Bunting incidentally is the man who is charge of insecurity in this country and has failed so far to come out swinging against the criminal elements in Jamaica and in so doing preserve the lives of Jamaicans. (I had to get that part off my chest).
Last week while paying tribute to Nelson Mandela, Peter Bunting thought it appropriate to use that occasion to call out sections of the media for being disrespectful to the Prime Minister. He was joined in that call by Carl Samuda who reminded the house that we live in a global village and anything on the news reaches way outside of Jamaica also.
I read the both papers daily, I have Gleaner update aps where every story that appears on line a get those breaking stories on my phones. I watch the news on both CVM and TVJ and when I get the time I try to listen to the radio stations.
I am yet to see those sections of the media to whom Peter Bunting is referring to, as apart from the occasionally funny caricature from Clovis and Las May, the Jamaican media have been very KIND to the Prime Minister of Jamaica, whose tenure so far as been nothing short of an abysmal failure.
Mrs Simpson Miller says she is being disrespected by members of the media and I’d be damned, because when my Government holds me down and take away 33% before I get my money and another 16.5% after I actually get the 67% and I get nothing in return, you bet I feel violated and disrespected.
When I have to beg the people to whom 49.5% of my earning goes, to simply tell me what is happening to my money and what are the plans for my safety as well as the economic plans for the country and all I get is deafening silence, I feel grossly disrespected.
When I finally catch up with my leader and request she tell me how by 49.5% is being spent and she says “I speak only when I have something to say”, well I’ll be damned, I feel disrespected.
Now when the Jamaican Prime Minister refuses to speak and her security personnel assaults a journalist, does Mr Bunting believes this also makes the news internationally.
When the Prime Minister refuses to speak to local journalist after a two years in office, but readily sits down and speak with foreign journalist, is that not being disrespectful to sections of the media. I wonder if the international media to whom Peter Bunting is referring to, does not also see the level of disrespect that the Jamaican people including the media are subjected to.
When 12 persons gets murdered in one small area as in sections of Montego Bay and the Minister of National Security and the Prime Minister are both silent , I wonder if the International media does not pick up that also.
My point is, focus on what’s wrong in Jamaica and are not working, focus on getting back security in the country as well as the economy on the right track. Tell the PM to get off her high horse and speak with the people of Jamaica on issues on National concern.
Failure to do so will see the PM continuing to face harsh criticism from sections of the media about her performance and by extension, that of her government. If we can fix what is wrong with Jamaica, then we will have less “fixation” on the Prime Minister.
I am tired of feeling disrespected and frankly I am very angry to be paying 49.5% of my earnings to a government, whose members feel its disrespectful to ask them to give an account of their stewardship and the how the monies are being spent.
If I am disrespectful in demanding answers in this regard, then I will be be unapologetic and continue to be disrespectful in this regard.
I could not give a rats ass about how the PM’s feels, she is being paid to stand up and be subjected to ridicule if he fails to get the job done and for which she has been handsomely rewarded. If she cannot handle the job, then she should pack her bags and go and in so doing would never be subjected to public disrespect to which the members refer.
I feel disrespected and violated when I am held up at gun point and a part of the 51.5% of what I am supposed to take home, is taken by the man with the gun and calling the police, whom I am paying fails to respond. I feel disrespected to pay for security myself but get none despite works my ass off on a daily basis, but Government members gets 24 hr security even though this country has NEVER had a problem with government members being victims of crime and he can afford to pay for his personal security, while I cannot.
If one wants to talk about disrespect lets speak about the following persons:
Edward Phillip George Seaga, who must go down as one of the most disrespected Prime Minister’s in Jamaica history by the Jamaican media
Bruce Golding, who was publicly ridiculed, called ” pathologically mendacious ie a liar” and told to ” pack his bags and go”, which incidentally he did. The above comments all elicited rapturous laughter by those who now call the tame treatment given to Portia Simpson Miller , disrespectful, give me a freaking break.
Respect is earned, you cannot demand respect if you in turn fail to respect the common man around you, it cuts both ways.
