“All immigration officers have been advised to adhere to regulations of the Immigration Act Chapter 18:01 and there would be no change to that unless through the National Security Council. “Immigration officers will continue to perform their duty by thoroughly verifying all persons to ensure they meet the full requirements, and if they do not meet those requirements, they would not be allowed entry into T&T. It’s as simple as that.”
NOT NEGOTIABLE
“These people have not only put a strain on the public’s purse but also on the country’s health and housing sectors. They have no BIR number, therefore they are not paying any taxes. Some even turn to a life of crime and this action cannot be condoned,” Griffith said. “I have a job to do and that is to ensure the sovereignty of this country and the security of its citizens. There would be no elements of flexibility. This is not negotiable. The buck stops with me.
ARGUMENT DONE !
AJ Nicholson must feel like a fool wherever he is today.
The tone was set from before Dookeran came here by the Prime Minister of Trinidad, when she said the immigration officers did nothing wrong. Dookeran trip was simply showing goodwill no wanting to turn down AJ Nicholson, which would have been a slap in the face.
Will the Jamaican Prime Minister now step in and allow her voices to be heard, I doubt that given that she and the Trinidadian Prime Ministers are good friends and she does not want to do anything to upset her, way to go Portia, Trinidad over Jamaica.
I warned in a previous thread that I harboured no hopes that anything could would have come out of the talk shop, given that for close to 20 yrs ( from 1989), when the PNP was in power ad despite the many meetings at Caricom level etc, nothing positive has emerged in Jamaica’s favour and at the end of the two days, nothing would have been different.
Dookeran is a diplomat and he simply did what they are supposed do do, now AJ Nicholson is left with eggs all over his face.
In light of all of this I think AJ Nicholson needs to step aside.

Griffin is a first class idiot who does not know what diplomacy is all about !
if you go by the numbers, these could be isolated incidents. The number of people refused by Trinidad is the same as in previous years.
Probably because a Trini person was kidnapped and killed in Jamaica may have led to the spike
