  1. Here is something more fitting for you to discuss: Is Tufton getting ready to abandon ship and join the PNP?

Tufton Withdraws Candidacy For Re-Election As Deputy Leader Area Council Four

Jamaica Labour Party Deputy leader for Area Council Four Dr Christopher Tufton has withdrawn his candidacy for re-election.

Tufton was recently ousted from the Senate when the Opposition Leader Andrew Holness submitted his resignation letter.

In a release Tufton explained that after much thought and consultations, he has decided that in the interest of party unity, he will withdraw his nomination for Deputy Leader.

Tufton said he has “no desire to prolong the divisive and rancorous conflict” that is threatening the party’s progress and runs counter to the best interests of the country.

Tufton has held the post since 2010.

    • I am sure that in the article I saw yesterday, it said that Tufton was focusing on winning his seat in St. Elizabeth.

  2. Phillip Paulwell as PM, that’s the time to abandon Jamaica, at least for me. The PNP would do well to invite Chris Tufton over to their side.

    • I was always of the opinion that Tufton was a better fit for the PNP than the JLP. The PNP could send him off to Westmoreland to take over Roger Clarke Seat and eventually take over the Agriculture Ministry when the PNP is return in 2016.

As for Phillip Paulwell assuming the leadership role of the PNP? Never! Although he is a close confidant of PSM, he is just not the type of individual that the general populace would rally around. The guy to watch, IMHO, is Peter Bunting or whomever Peter Phillips endorsed in the long run.

      • Blind obedience to bad leadership is not patriotism it only reinforces corruption. Portia Simpson Miller has not exhibited any of the qualitie s of a leader, she is disrespectful to the press and the people of Jamaica. It is quite unfortunate that she will never speak to a journalist in an intelligent manner, but she is always willing to “curse”. She belongs in the market not in Jamaica House

        • You belong in China and Cuba. Anyone who does not respect the democratic process should go and live in a communist country. You probably would not even have the right to offer an opinion

        • It helps the “democratic” process when the people are educated, so their decisions are based on some measurable parameter.

Due to lack of education critical thinking is absent and so decisions are made on blind allegiance.

If we had a better educated electorate maybe we would not have the leader we have two who cannot put together a proper sentence in a interview.

Sad indeed. Jamaica shall pay dearly for this mistake with the PNP !

  3. Mr. Cullcull, I will never liven in a country like China or Cuba, especially China, since the state has very little respect for property rights, peasants are often forced off their land and dissent in crushed. Even, with the recent reforms in China the state has a long way to go. Maybe you belong in Zimbabwe because you seem to love bad leadership

    Dear Editor,

We must be wary of persons who propagate the gospel of consensus, because we do not know their true intentions. The prime minister and members of her Administration enjoy using terms like “consultation and transparency” but, based on their actions, we now know that these sentiments mean nothing to them. An Administration that believes in transparency would do more to accommodate the media.

Since, this Administration is more adept at winning elections than the Opposition, there seems to be an inherent belief in some quarters that the People’s National Party (PNP)
owns Jamaica, and anyone attempting to dispel this myth is often accused of undermining the present Administration. And it appears that Portia Simpson Miller is a fervent believer in this doctrine, because her actions do not imply otherwise.
Although she was highly critical of the previous Administration, it is now blasphemous for anyone to suggest that her Administration is corrupt or members of the party are performing below par.

Therefore, taxpayers should not have a problem with the tribalism of Glendon Harris, the incompetence of Peter Bunting, the aloofness of Anthony Hylton, nor the arrogance of Richard Azan.
After all, it should not concern us when Bills are passed in Parliament without debate, because the PNP knows what is best for Jamaica. And, why should we have an interest in the cost of the prime minister’s foreign excursions when she is only accountable to the PNP?

Unfortunately, several individuals have bought into the idea, that the PNP is only answerable to the PNP, some are even claiming that the media should “tread with caution” when dealing with the prime minister. This is a faulty argument because there was no backlash when the media was barred from accessing important meetings, so the press is indeed “treading with caution”. But the prime minister is not accountable to the public, so no journalist should badger her with serious questions?

It is also quite ironic that the honourable prime minister is never afraid to give long speeches about sports or comment on positive events, but she never addresses the hard questions.
When the PNP won the election in 2011 it was a victory solely for the PNP, and there was only a consensus between the members of the PNP.

By voting for the PNP voters supported this agreement without knowing what the agreement entailed. During the election season, Mrs Simpson Miller’s rhetoric was so enticing that most persons opted to forget that her party was never known for accountability or transparency. Though her Administration will never exhibit these qualities, some are still expecting transformation, but blind obedience to bad leadership only reinforces corruption. The more this Administration is appeased, the more corrupt it will become and the people will have no one to blame but themselves.

  4. You are entitled to your opinion. As I to mine. But it is very condescending to constantly refer to the people who elected the PNP as uneducated or non thinking. But in a democracy, I would still grant you the right to think that way, because that is democracy at work.

People rule. People power .. respect our democratic leader with constructive criticism, instead of an attempt at insurrection on behalf of friends of habitual Party leader losers like Peter Phillips .
