The PM has steadfastly refused to speak with the Jamaican media for the last two years and today she took it a step further, by telling the media she will not answer a particular question, because her response to that is what would be covered in the nightly news and not the event to which she had attended. So now the PM is telling the media what to report on, what is really going on in Jamaica ?
The Prime Minister has become unaccountable and out of control and feels completely at ease in her utter contempt and disrespect of the media and the general public.
I am sure the OPM will soon issue a statement seeking to clarify what happened and the media will gladly carry it and forgive her crude actions once again

The OPM did release a statement. I am very disappointed with the PAJ and the MAJ. It just goes to show which side of the bread is buttered for them. If this was the JLP, they would have been up in arms and ready to battle. This is just a sad reflection as to what has become of the once powerful media entities. They are now just content with the bones given by the government and more happy with the infighting at the JLP. Bruce was always accessible to the press and Jamaican citizens. Can’t forget the clash with him and the Head of the NAJ.
I have not yet seen the statement from the OPM, but it was expected .
Diss dem then send out press release, look what the once powerful media has come to .
Time and Place. Applies to everybody. I was at a funeral and I saw a ‘celebrity’ entertainment personality that I longed to have dialog with. i went over to the person and said. Condolences to the family !!!
It was the wrong time and place to discuss any entertainment events. One should have a sense of time and place. The PM should also avail herself to the media at a specified time and place.
The problem Cullcull is after 2 years she has not given a time of place to avail herself for an interview.
This is unacceptable and you too should see it as such .
Pure Bullsh$$ by the PM
In terms of information, we should be held the responsible persons to the highest standard. We have a minister of information, whose job it is to provide clear information to the country. There is a scheduled meeting with the Minister of Information every week. So all questions can be answered in that forum.
If we are not thinking thagt the minister of information is giving information, then we should have her changed.
For the record, PSM DID answer the reporters question !!!. She said Azan has been found not to be criminally liable by the DPP. On that basis she decided to give him back his job.
She has clearly answered the question !!!
personally , criminal behavior is too low a bar. So Azan should go as his judgement is poor. but the government has decided to use the threshold of misconduct should rise to Criminal.
So from what I am getting the Prime Minister should not make herself accessible to the media to respond to questions.
At first you said there was a time and place for everything, which I interpreted to me that was not the right time or place to question the Prime Minister.
Now you are suggesting that there is no right time of place to do so, since there is a Minister of Information and that person should answer the questions at the weekly post cabinet press conference.
I don’t want to misrepresent what you said, so if I am not correct please make the necessary corrections.
BTW how many press conference has Obama held since the start of the year?
No need to shove a microphone in his face as he makes himself accessible.
This man is one of the most powerful men in the world, but yet it think its necessary to respond to the people of the USA and the media.
I am saying that one should not wait until a particular press conference from the PM, as there is a minister of information that gives out information weekly.
The PM should have regular update to the nation. I think she had one about the IMF.
I don’t know that President OBama gives a lot of press conferences, I really don’t know. if you do, you can let me know the last press conference that he has. i know he gave a lot when he was campaigning for office, not sure how much he gives when he was president.
I still did not see you acknowledge my point that PSM did in fact answer the question ion the said interview. Why are you still leaving the misconception that she did not clearly answer the question ?
Cullcull there is a broader issue here than what you seem to be alluding to. Yes Portia gave a response and further questions were asked seeking to clarify that response. She refused to answer that and so is her right.
The problem is there is no forum to ask any question of the PM and that is a big problem.
Portia has been allowed to play this dodging game for far too long. She is not accountable to herself, she instead is accountable to the people of Jamaica.
If people wanted to hear from the Minister of Information, we would have made her Prime Minister, then all info would come from a single source.
The information Minister was never voted for, she is not the Prime Minister and there in lies the problem.
We can skip, run, jump as much as we want, but Portia should not be allowed to abdicate her responsibility to the people of Jamaica.
We don’t want to her from the Minister of Information, we want to hear from our Prime Minister, is that too much to ask?
Jay, this prime minister is a joke. Her administration has no respect for the press whatsoever, not only does she refuses to speak to the press, but sometimes the press is barred from attending some events. Jay, Portia only wants to affiliate herself with positive elements, so when she is at function she will speak about the function to make it appear like she is doing something. In Portia eyes being a pm is all about having fun.
A reporter will continue to ask (badger) a person if they do not get the answer that they want to hear. After a while, the PM think it was getting distracting to the main function she was attending.
She clearly thinks that Azan breach was cleared by the DPP, and that was good enough for her !!!. It may not be good enough for some people (myself included) , but at the end of the day it is her prerogative !!!
Do you want to hear operational details from the PM ?. I do not necessarily agree with that. Bruce Golding used that method and he spoke out of turn and embarrassed his Ministers.
Doing things like that will sideline your security minister and your minister of Justice … and as PSM said, talk your way out of office !!!
PSM is a very smart woman, she will not talk on operational matters when she is not fully apprised of the facts .
I agree that she should have regular addresses to the nation. Just like how US have a ‘state of the Union’ address
