Ok, so the headline may sound hard but its the reality of the Jamaica we live in today.
Everyone is taking a bite out our collective asses and we continue to willing accept this situation with ” a nuh nuttin attitude”.
Bank fees now contribute over 40% of the profits of some banks and they continue to find more and more ways to screw over the every willing public. Let’s examine just some of the fees applied by banks as they seek to continue to grow profits so they can pay their executives combined salaries of over $200m per annum.
- You pay a fee if you deposit money at the counter
- You pay a fee if you withdraw at the counter
- You pay a fee if you do not add or withdraw from your account ( dormancy fee)
- You pay a fee if you try to withdraw more than the daily limit set by the banks.
- You pay a fee if you make too many ATM withdrawals.
- You pay a fee to cash a cheque
- You pay a fee if your saving account falls below a certain value.
These are just a few of the many fees that the consumer pays and in a struggling economy one would think the overburdened consumer would squeal, hell no not in Jamaica, we seem only too eager to pay, while some banks continue to earn super profits.
I will take on one of the utilities in another article coming up.
When will the real Jamaicans standup !
