Jamaican economy sees growth, really ?

The Jamaican Finance Minister Dr Peter Phllips brought god news to the country yesterday, when he reported that growth has returned. Dr Phillips said that the Jamaican economy grew by just under 1% and signals that the country appears to be once again on a growth path.

I cannot say the Minister is right or wrong, but what I can certainly say, is myself and hundreds and thousands of other Jamaicans, would not have been able to tell we are seeing growth had the Minister not said it.

Some people will tell you that for the average person seeing growth lags the actual growth, which says that one does not “feel” the growth until after some period after the growth has occurred.

I will therefore wait to see if I see any signs to suggest that this economy is growing.
