I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent guy, I associate with many intelligent and also many persons who are challenged in their ability to read and write, by virtue of what I do.
I have a vicarious appetite for reading and I am not easily swayed by persons who may be considered to be more knowledgeable on a subject matter that I am and I do not usually follow the crowd. My views tend to be very different from many persons, whom tend to form their views from the popular positions being expressed by others.
I relate well with the top executive down to the man who sweep the streets and is able to therefore have a much broader perspective than many persons on the happenings in Jamaica.
Now, this brings me to the issue of a recent statement attributed to the Governor of the Bank Of Jamaica , where he was reported to have said the country is moving in the right direction. Now , the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica can be considered to be an intelligent man, whose knowledge of Finance and Economics is probably better than mine, we can all agree on that.
Now given that Mr Wynter is an intelligent and knowledgeable man and really therefore ought to know what he is talking about, one can therefore agree with his statement, that the country is indeed heading in the right direction, but is this really true?
Now recall perspective is sometimes said to be more real that actual reality.
On Tuesday, Oct 15, 2013, we received news that consumer and business confidence had fallen to record lows, due mainly to rising levels of unemployment and a runaway Jamaica dollar. The report was present by a Professor Curtian, who no doubt is also a very intelligent man.
The report was based on interviews conducted with many business persons and consumers and is a report, which has been done for the last 12 years. So here we have a broad cross-section of the ordinary Jamaican people as well as business persons saying ” we have no confidence in the economic strategy being pursued by this government and in essence saying the country is headed in the wrong direction”, yet a day later the man with responsibility for a large part of the strategy being pursued saying ” we are headed in the right direction”.
There two views are diametrically opposed to each other and both cannot be right, which means one is obviously wrong. If the people of the country, ordinary man and women and those are in business are saying ” hold on we are heading in the wrong direction” and one man say “ we are headed in the right direction “and given your own personal situation, who appears to be the most credible voice out there.
Have you ever heard the head of an organization, who is charged with moving the organization forward come out and boldly declare that ” we are headed in the wrong direction” ? If he did so he would not have a job, because the reason for him being there is to steer the organization in the right direction.
If Brian Wynter thinks we are headed in the right direction, then nothing will stop him from pursuing the strategy he has designed or was designed for him, if that holds true then I agree with Peter Bunting when he said ” Only divine intervention can save Jamaica”.
If Brian Wynter thinks we are indeed heading in the right direction and the country is in the state it’s in today, I will support anyone who takes us in the “wrong direction” because that must be better than what currently exist.
We cannot continue to live in a state of denial, because that is what has gotten us to where we are today and will keep us here until we are willing to be true first to ourselves and then to our people. We cannot continue to feed our people Bullsh$t .
I heard on hand cart man last night to Television suggesting that now they have their license they have rights and if they were to meet in an accident with a motor car, they are now “protected”.
Is this a case of this man misunderstanding what the licensing regime was all about or was he deliberately mislead so he could buy into paying the $3000 per year to operate in the Kingston “market area.”
