DIRECTOR GENERAL of the PIOJ speaking “Bollocks”

DIRECTOR GENERAL of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) Colin Bullock says the international markets are warming up to the country in light of its performance under the extended fund facility with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The purse strings appear to be loosening and there appears to be increased confidence in Jamaica’s capacity to manage a difficult programme,” Bullock said.  ( bold my emphasis)

He continued..

The PIOJ boss, who was speaking during a meeting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, said Jamaica was no longer being seen as a pariah by the country’s international development partners.

OK , show us some proof, show us some credible data to suggest that since our “passing” of the IMF test Jamaica is being seen in a different light. The PIOJ is a data driven institution and should always speak with data to back up what is being said. Given the absence of any credible data to support the ascertains being made by the Director General, I cannot accept his information as being credible.

I am amazed how a man of his stature can come before a parliamentary committee without data and yet make such pronouncements without being asked to provide the evidence to support his claims.

The Bollocks continued..

In spite of the perceived difficulties, there are companies in Jamaica which are not [complaining]. Probably they don’t have the time to complain and to express this lack of confidence. They are too busy making money,” Bullock told the committee.

The business confidence report does not seem to support the bollocks stated above, in fact business confidence is at it’s worse since the global recession. More than 50% of all companies interviewed showed less profits and their forecast is for even lower profits levels in the future.

Once again we cannot have our Director General of a data drive organization making statements without any form of data to support his assertions.

I am therefore left to ask was Mr Bullocks statements designed to  try and shore up some confidence after the battering the administration took from the recent business and consumer confidence report?

  1. When will the real journalist outside of Cliff Hughes, George Davis, Emily Crooks and the rest of the NNN crew stand up and be counted.

When will they start asking the tough questions vs simply writing what was reported and suggesting to us, that is news. When will they go behind what is reported for the real news, which will then force persons to come armed with data to support their rhetoric, which often gets passed on as news.
