In later September the Gleaner reported that Mayor of Sav the PNP’s Bertel Moore, was said to have suggested to the police to ” shoot first and ask questions later”. In a radio interview in late September on Nationwide and speaking with Cliff Hughes, the Mayor categorically denied saying what was attributed to him by the gleaner reporter and suggested to Cliff that he was totally misquoted. Mr Moore who was reportedly in Canada at the time said he would have been irresponsible to have said such things.
Fast forward to Friday Oct 11, 2013 and on that day Nationwide played a tape on which we could clearly hear Betrel suggesting to the cops to “shoot first and asked questions later”, when asked to who should shoot first he retorted ” the police”.
When Mr Moore was called on NNN to explain what was being played on the tape and his earlier denial of having said those words, the mayor replied sheepishly that he “forgot” that he had said that part, in later said ” When I listened to the tape, I heard the tape saying shoot first and ask questions later” , but he said he did not recall saying that part, but now having heard it on tape, he wanted to apologize for misleading the country. ( I heard the tape said hahhaha, comrades all when caught in the act will take a line from shaggy , it was not me)
Given the mayor earlier strident denial and given the human rights violation that the Mayor appears to be condoning and now the tape which proves he is a lair, is this the type of politician that Jamaica wants to represent her.
The mayor should do the honourable thing and resign before the end of the day, we must not tolerate this type of behaviour from our public officials. If he can so strongly deny what was said publicly only for him to be proven a liar, can we really trust this mayor to be truthful on any other matter.
Mayor Bertel Moore must resign forthwith !
