Bye Bye Jamaica, I shall return we have a proper government in place.

“Bye, Bye Jamaica, I shall return when we have a proper government in place”, those were the words of a very close friend and his family as they left this country in search of peace and propriety.

” Jay, I truly love Jamaica, but I can no longer stay in a country where I am constantly on the edge, my kids are fearful. my wife is fearful and I am always tense not knowing when I too would have become a victim of crime. Well I was just recently and it  brought home to me the fact that life in Jamaica has no meaning and can be taken away just like that and for a simple as saying I have no money.

I am no longer prepared to live like this any longer and as much as I will be a foreigner in someone’s country, I know at least my blood pressure will not be as high as it currently is and my kids and wife will be a lot more comfortable”

The above was the said tale of a professional couple kids in good school , good job, nice home and nice earnings, who have decided to leave the shores of Jamaica  to live somewhere were life has meaning and police act with professionalism and actually catches people. He and his wife have already secured jobs and getting all three kids into school was rather easy.

I spoke just last night to the family.

Jay ” So how is life thus far where you are”

Response ” It’s only a few days, kids are registered and attending school not very far from where we live it early days yet but one thing struck me in the first few days.  Here I am approaching a four way, so traffic signals and you have no one boring to get through, people stop and wait there turn before proceeding.  I approach the traffic lights and its amber and people actually slow down anticipating its going red, not speeding as they do back home in trying to beat the light.

Jay ” So how is the job so far and what is crime like “

Response ” The job is much like what I had back home, I am getting the hang of things and we just see how it goes from here. Where I live there is no grill, but I am not taking any chances as I am new to the area. The folks in and around here are courteous and welcoming, so far so good.

Jay ” So what really pushed you to  jump ship as the say.

Response ” In all honesty it’s a combination of things, but the main one is the level of lawlessness and insecurity that exist in Jamaica. I have seen two of my friends whom I  went to University  with , shot and killed during robbery attempts. You cannot go on the road without be harassed by lawless tax and bus drivers, windshield washers and everyone  begging a thing. The entire country appears to have lost its direction and the politicians and their loyal followers are completely clueless.  I have seen local qualified experts in my peer group gives these goons expert advice, only for them to be ignored and experts from overseas being brought in to do the  very same thing and end up with the very same result.

Jay ”  I certainly can relate to that. For the last two years a friend of mine have been trying unsucessfuly to secure a couple of government contracts he bidded on and out of frustration he left the country. This year the first contract he sent in a bid on from his now USA address, he won that bid and yet he did nothing different from what he did before.  Anyway I got to run now my brother, hopefully things will change soon in Jamaica.

Response “ It had better be sooner that later because at the rate we are going, I see complete chaos in a year or less.

Jamaica is headed in the wrong direction.

  1. was he born big ?. Taxi drivers bad driving and Windscreen Washers has been here from day one. That is nothing new…

“The entire country appears to have lost its direction and the politicians and their loyal followers are completely clueless” That statement needs further clarification… did that happen overnight…

    • Did not happen overnight. Yrs on poor leadership from the pnp got us here and the longer they stay the worse it is likely to get

Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device from LIME.

      • People like CullCull are mad, they have no problem with the inept leadership of the present administration. Portia and her friends are on a spending spree, and it is unthinkable to criticise the government without being bash. Most People do not have a problem with Portia, but its time for her to step aside, we cannot have a prime minister who is not concerned with major issues that are affecting the country

        • people who do not think like you are mad !!! I must give thanks that I do not ascribe to any thought processes which deem people with different opinions as mad. Democracy has spoken and PSM is the leader of the PNP and the government via the ballot , yet you want her to ‘step aside’ . you do not respect democracy

    • You completely ignore the fact that he mentioned the high crime rate, I guess you are comfortable with that too because according to people like you crime is everywhere, am I correct.

  2. I must give thanks that I have not been a major victim of crime, so I cannot relate in such a direct manner. my car was broken into, and that sucked majorly… but cars also get broken into in other parts of the world.

Definitely if crime hits you, then your outlook would change, but I do not live in fear, I live with care. Self preservation is a must, so if your friends think by running away will solve there problem, I cannot knock them.

but SOMEHOW I THINK MAYBE THE PROBLEM IS THAT HE IS NOT GETTING CONTRACTS!!! and if he had got them while in Jamaica he would be singing a different tune

    • I do not respect democracy, it is just a more tolerable system. Charles Bukowski, now dead, once said, “The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later in a dictatorship you don’t have to waste your time voting”. It is because of democracy why we have demagogues like Portia running the country
