PNP responsible for 90% of the hardship being faced by Jamaicans today

In this post I am going to use the Jamaica dollar exchange rate in relation to the US$ to suggest that 80% of the economic problems faced by Jamaicans today are due to the PNP.

In 1972 one US$1.00 was worth $J0.78 or put another way j$1.00  was equivalent to  US$1.28 , yes folks the Jamaican dollar was worth more that the US currency.

Between 1972 and today Oct 10, 2013 the dollar has moved from that position to nearly US$1.00 = $J105 !

To put things into perspective I am now going to show which of the parties was responsible for how much slippage of the dollar in real dollar terms only.

Combined slippage under the JLP  = $20,75

Combined slippage under the PNP  = $94.25

% of slippage attributed to the JLP = 10%

% of slippage attributed to the PNP = 90%

Now we know that there is a direct correlation between exchange rate depreciation , price increases and inflation.

If we were to assume if all other conditions remaining equal and that rate of increase of prices  for is in the region of say 30% then the changes in relation to the currency would be in the region of 70%. The relationship between price increases and the dollar change in terms of percentage change could be described  one to 0.70 ie for each % change in the exchange rate prices increase by 0.7% of that 1%  number.

One can clearly see without glasses that the PNP has been responsible for 90% of the total depreciation of the Jamaican dollar between 1972 and today and by extension must be responsible for close to 90% of the hardship faced by Jamaicans today as a result of the wiping out of 90% of the total value of the dollar.

This is indeed a stellar performance, as to get 90% in any area must mean you are doing a damn good job in that area.

This is not politics , these are raw numbers verifiable from the bank of Jamaica, the only thing I have done is to take that raw data and add some perspective to it and show the people of the Jamaica, that the rule of the PNP has been nothing but total destruction of the economy of Jamaica. The longer this party continues in power, the worst the situation is likely to be, that is what the data is suggesting.

Instead of chasing behind Shaw and engaging in childish comments, what I have done here is what Andrew Holness and the JLP are supposed to be doing, instead I have to be doing the work for these knuckleheads who have no idea how to behave as leadership in waiting.

Let me offer some historical perspective.

In 1978 I could purchase  pound of sugar for J$0.08 per pound. The price of a pound of sugar today Oct 2013 is about say $50 per pound, that is a change of  62400 %.  This is how much prices have moved over the period largely due to devaluation being the main factor.

  1. Jay, I think you need to correct this number.

% of slippage attributed to the JLP = 90%

    • Thanks much, that was one serious mistake on my part 🙂
It’s a good thing you saw that before Test and Ivor.

  2. See how good a job the great party is doing.
