When Phillip Paulwell was questioned about the acceptance of a late submission of a bid from EWI, he told the public he took the document to cabinet where it was approved and instruction given to have it included in the set of bids for consideration by the OUR.
When questioned further Paulwell indicated the EWI has its own oil fields and it would be able to deliver energy at a very competitive price and there is no way he could not have allowed this bid to have been entered.
Now given the fact that no information can be found on EWI and only on EWC, which appears to have a maze of interconnected companies and payments to these companies amounting to millions of dollars coupled with the fact that , they have a bad track record of cost overruns and late implementation of various projects, one must now question the competence of the Energy Minister in first reviewing and accepting the document and by extension the entire cabinet, who approved the entry of this bid.
With the questions now being raised on the competence of EWI/EWC and what appears to be Enron like accounting practices, questions must now be asked of the entire Jamaican cabinet as to what they saw in the EWI bid, which made allowed them to make a decision , which is now under serious scrutiny. The Prime Minister and Phillip Paulwell and the rest of the cabinet are all culpable and under the “collective responsibility” model of the Westminster system, must accept responsibility for what is now appearing to be a grand mess.
I would not go as far as to suggest that the entire cabinet resign as a result of this major gaffe, but I am now extremely concerned about the competence of the Portia Simpson Miller led cabinet to deal with major international investors . There seemingly willingness to accept first and then due diligence later on, cannot be good for this country and right now the credibility of the country is being questioned internationally as a result of the actions of this cabinet.
This energy mess is just another sign of how badly the PNP is managing the country and one must now begin to ask very serious questions about the Chinese proposed US$1.5B investment, because I have lost any remaining confidence I had in the abilities of this cabinet to properly negotiate big money contract on the behalf of the Jamaican people.
The Syndey Morning Herald Business writer today wrote the following
The Jamaican government is facing scrutiny from the opposition for striking a ‘highly irregular’ deal with EWI.
The media in Jamaica is abuzz with speculation of how an Australian company operating out of Hong Kong has suddenly and mysteriously won the tender to build the nation’s new power station.
Instead of lining up with the other energy companies in the tender for the 360-megawatt power station by the Office of Utilities Regulation, EWI had gone straight to Jamaica’s cabinet to have its pitch approved.

Read for yourself folks, what is now appearing to be one embarrassing episode , which once again involves Phillip Paulwell.

I had a sickly feeling reading the report and I hope for our sake that everything turn okay. Because if not, we’ll be the laughing stock of the world.
I am being told that big name comrades are now monitoring this blog and some are on record as saying it’s being run by a member of the G2K.
Let me state categorically that this is blog is not affiliated with the JLP or G2K and Jay is simply a ordinary non aligned citizen who believes that elected officials and other public officials must be held accountable for their stewardship.
I don’t believe in lending blind and loyal support to those to who fail to lead properly and it’s for the very same reason I have been knocking Andrew Holness publicly despite the fact that some folks say I am a JLP sympathizer.
I am on record however as questioning the capacity of Andrew to lead the JLP prior to the Audley Shaw’s challenge.
Comrades on the other hand support criminally charged comrades who are public officials and would demonstrate that the charges being dropped vs being heard in open court.
They Mayor of May Pen is the most recent case. Even when he is found guilty he will simply pay the fine and remain in office.
I would not be surprised if it is been monitored Jay. The “presstitutes” have been an embarrassment to the Jamaican cause and it must be quite alarming to the politicians that important issues are been elucidated in this forum. It has contributed to a “revolutionary” change in the jlp, so i am hoping that guys like Julian Robinson and Damion Crawford can initiate some “revolutionary” changes in the pnp?
Isn’t it good that “big name comrades” are reading this blog – don’t you want them to know your views?
I have no issues with the reading, what I have a problem with is how they tend to take criticism of the party personally. At the mirco level look at Test and Ivor always saying how bias I am, but if you look at the facts I have been critical of both the JLP and PNP.
Test and Ivor on the other hand while being critical of the JLP has never said a bad thing about the PnP and/or its leader.
Just check the nlog for the truth.

My “ears kept ringing” and I tracked the source of the minor annoyance directly to your latest comment. No one has to point out the degree of your bias, it is there to see in black and white…. not that you are making any attempt at concealing it.
Why don’t you share with the rest of us how you came by the information that big name comrades are monitoring your blog? Care to name at least one of these big name comrades…just one! 99% of Jamaicans do not read blogs (80+% of them do even read any of the print media and only a handfull even listen to the news with any regularity), so I’m at a lost as to why big name comrades who want to monitor your blog.
I resemble that remark about taking criticism of the PNP personally. On the contrary. I find your daily rants about the PNP rather comical, since it’s clearly shown the depths and rapid descent of your psychosis. After all, I have never hinted at the fact that you should be banished to the land of the apes…have I? 😀
Hey Jay, Jamaica lost to the USA 2-0 yesterday….. is that the fault of the PNP/PSM or is it tomorrows blog headline?
Like I said last year the entire cabinet is a guilty as Paulwell
Paulwell can try to slide like a snake but my position is exactly the same as reported here
Had it gone well it would have been Paulwell’s doing, now that its all screwed up its not Paulwell’s fault.
