Jamaica Chamber of Commerce says Jamaica must brace for more hard times

The JCC has indicated that Jamaicans who believe they are going through hard times today, should brace for even more hard times to come as the full effect of the IMF agreements starts to take its toll.

At this time I would like take words from a song done by Luther Vandross, that likens Jamaica love affair with the PNP. I will share sections of that song as I try to make my point.  Things got so bad under the PNP, that the JLP bouyed by big money was able to win the election in 2007 and this is what Jamaicans said.

And then I met someone
and thought she could replace you
we got a long just fine
we wasted time because she was not you
we had a lot of fun
though we knew we were faking
love was not impressed with our connection built on lies, all lies
so I’m here cause I found this one thing is true
that I’m nothing without you
I know better now
and I’ve had a change of heart

The Jamaica Labour Party despite taking charge at the worst possible time ie the entire world economy was going through a depression, was able to keep things together and we were just turning the corner having begun to register some growth.

At the same time criminals were running into hiding and in some cases left the country as the security force launched sustained assault on the criminals , never before seen in modern Jamaica and discipline was being restored in the country.

Jamaica hate discipline, we are a people who likes to do, what we want, when we want to do it and we nah mek nuh body make we caan eat a food from illicit /illegal and or corrupt activities, so what do we do. We vote back into power those who will “tun up d ting” and allow d running’s to take place just like how we like.

The victory of the PNP ushered in a new period of recession, price increases, increased taxes, more crimes, more indiscipline, more loud music until day light, more bandoolism and more hardship for the poor, who could not even get chicken back fi eat much less oxtail.

We are now beginning to reap the rewards of our folly and as the JCC said ” Unno nuh see nuttin yet, it is a bout to get worse”, meaning the hardship is about to “tun up some more”.

But a dis we say

I’d rather have bad times with you, than good times with someone else
I’d rather be beside you in a storm, than safe and warm by myself
I’d rather have hard times together, than to have it easy apart
I’d rather have the one who holds my heart
whoo-oo-oo-oo yeah

We say even more…

I can’t blame you if you turn away from me, like I’ve done you,
I can only prove the things I say with time,
please be mine,

I’d rather have bad times with (please be mine) you,
than good times with someone else (I know)
I’d rather be beside you in a storm (anytime),
than safe and warm by myself (so sure baby)
I’d rather have hard times to gether,
than to have it easy apart
I’d rather have the one who holds my heart (my hear

The above lyrical content of Luther Vandross song is a powerful message of the relationship between Jamaica and the PNP and is one that will ultimately destroy this country, unless the middle class who have been always sitting on the sidelines gets involved and ensure that, the PNP are banished from power for at least 10  yrs . This will  give the country a chance to finally exhale, by which time most of the relics would have a passed on the the new one’s can have a change of heart, having seen how it can and should be done.

In the meaning brace for more hardship until 2016 !

One love

  1. Whilst I understand the points raised (and actually like that song), I am questioning whether Jamaicans indeed like the sufferings and the bandooloo business. When we go to countries such as the US and Canada, we conform to their standards without hesitation. We also will work very hard hence the reason why our workers are in demand for these overseas assignments. If we could only apply that when in Jamaica, then we would see the turnaround that is required to move Jamaica forward.
