There are many persons who are of the misguided belief that, if they have a good product, which can do wonders then, people automatically will buy it and they will become rich in the process.
Those in the marketing world however, know this is as far from being true and the key to getting your product sold is a very good marketing plan followed by pin point advertising at your target group. Even after sales have picked up, you have to at times modify your strategy to gain even more market share as you try to appeal to a different market to continue to grow the business.
This bring me to Andrew Holness and the JLP. ( I know some will say huh, but just hear me out)
Andrew Holness is said to be a good product so let’s examine the strengths of this product.
Strengths.
- Cerebral.
- Intelligent .
- Well educated and schooled
- Young, has time on his side.
- Transformational in his thinking
- Non confrontational and not obnoxious as most politicians are.
- Calm and composed demeanor .
- Consensus leader.
Weakness
- Boring
- Monotonousness speeches
- Lack fire in the belly
- Uninspiring in interviews, speeches etc.
Opportunities
- Young and should be able to appeal to the youth, which is the majority
- Ability to represent Jamaica properly on the international stage
- Can be molded into one of new generation leaders
- Can bring new thoughts ideas to the table
Threats
- Audley Shaw
- Portia Simpson Miller and the PNP
Now if you look at all of Andrew’s perceived strength , combine that with the opportunities match those against his weakness and threats, then Andrew Holness should be the Prime Minister of Jamaica today.
He is not and instead is leading an extremely weak and ineffective opposition party, why ?
Well it goes back to what I stated at the beginning, having a good product does not necessarily mean people will buy it.
The JLP has a very weak marketing machinery and even when they attempt to market their “better product”, the campaign is so weak and lacks the correct focus, that it fails to attract the attention of the group they ought to be targeting.
Therein lies the problem and the reason the JLP will be in opposition after the elections in 2016 if Holness is elected leader and everything remains as they were before November 2013.

I will be like a stuck record here. you cannot be a good product if a ‘bad’ product is beating you
Agree
Jay, i think Holness’ strengths are highly overrated. It was “presstitutes” that anointed him without even questioning the way in which he got there. The ‘”rockstone laborites” terribly miscalculated his viability after the Golding fiasco as they thought they could pull a farce on the Jamaican public. I see nothing new from Holness except him been younger. Jamaica’s challenges need revolutionary thinking and leadership.
Agree
Jay, number 5 under “Strengths” is not correct. In fact, that is at the heart of the problems faced by Holness – his actions and his words do not match! On Monday Emily Crooks played a tape of a presentation he made in Westmoreland over the weekend, and he made Audley Shaw look like a choir boy.
