West Kingston is once again in the news as gangs battle it out to gain control of what is said to be a $500m /yr extortion racket.
For years West Kingston was said to have one of the lowest crime rates in the Kingston Metropolitan region , which was achieved by unofficial law enforcement agency or put another way, don rule. It was said that once the head of the snake was off, crime would be controlled in that area and peace and legitimacy in terms of rule and law would return. ( That was the official line)
The unofficial line ie those of the people said once the Don was gone their would be war and their lives would have been a living hell given that the Don control was paramount to peace and safety .
Time has proven the people to be correct as we can now see that all hell has broken loose, with warring factions battle each for official control of that police division.
The official law enforcement team appears to be totally lost at sea and so far has failed to take control of the situation resulting in loss of many lives as chaos reigns.
Commonsenseja is not advocating for the return of Don rule, far from that, what Commonsenseja is pointing out is our inability to deal with crime control in West Kingston and this scene can be replicated across many other communities in Jamaica.
All the gains made in May 2010 have all but evaporated in the 2 yrs that the PNP Government the PNP was in power, given that up to Dec 2011, the area was definitely under the control of the police
Organized crime is a lot easier to control than disorganized crime

Look at what commonsenseja wrote back in 2010.

What has changed, not a F#$@#ing thing and we are not even back to where we were pre- May 2010, we have gone beyond that to a situation on no single control and a bunch of splintered cells all over the place, which makes it very very difficult if not impossible to control.
When will we ever get it right in Jamaica, what will cause Jamaicans to say enough is enough and we want no superficial but fundamental changes and when will all this happen ?
