A Prime Minister for Comrades. We need one for all of Jamaica

Every Prime Minister has a right to speak to their supporters if and when they see it fit to do so and I have no problem with that. Equally every Prime Minister has a right to choose if he/she speaks to the local or foreign media when they travel, that again is all up to them.

No Prime Minister however, have the right to repeatedly refuse to speak to the people of the country over which, he or she presides, that is a slap in the face and an insult to the people.

Well our Prime Minister was very busy over the last weekend where she addressed “comrades Jamaicans” as she “celebrated” ( damn that word again) the 75th Anniversary of the people’s national party.  First she addressed comrades in Kingston and then flew by Helicopter to Montego Bay where she addressed other comrade Jamaicans.

There she continued her crusade, where she vowed to remain a champion for poverty , the poor and the oppressed ( we have oppressed people in Jamaica?)

“During this difficult period I will do everything that is possible to ensure that we protect the interest of the poor and the oppressed, because it has always been a part of the People’s National Party’s administration, and under my leadership it will be no less,”

Let’s  first note the text attributed to the Prime Minister ( yes I am picky).

will do everything….. then…..  to ensure we protect the interest of the poor.

Those words in bold were carefully chosen by someone whose self interest is paramount and comes first.

So let’s break it down.

The word I in the context above and in  I will simply means what is says, I will take personal responsibility to do what I can to help the poor perhaps via recommendations etc.

We however in the context used, means collectively responsibility for actually making it , that is making it a reality.

So if it does not happen, which it won’t, its not because of me( or I as in this case), its not my fault I did all I could. Blame for failure then becomes shared by everyone, thus leaving the Prime Minister Champion for the Poor and unscathed.

We will then say she did all she could, so a nuh fi har fault. Wow such brilliance is being displayed  by the Prime Minister in seeking to protect herself and  which, ensures she still has the heart of the Jamaican people.

Now Let’s examine this horse manure attributed to  the PM and test the veracity of this statement  made above, by looking at a few areas under her watch since becoming PM  in December 2011.

  1. The dollar reached its lowest value ever and is now worth(less) than one cent , now $102.24
  2. Gas prices reached their highest value ever.
  3. Ghetto people have resorted to buying a squeeze of toothpaste for  $5.00 because they cannot afford a tube.
  4. Ghetto people have resorted to buying 1/2 a tin of bully beef, because a single tin of bully beef was just too expensive.
  5. The middle class became poor while the rich got even more wealth.
  6. People money in the NHT was removed to build house in the constituency of the Prime Minister and to shore up GOJ accounts for the IMF.
  7. Teacher could not get paid.
  8. Teachers were paid but told not to cash their checks
  9. Attempts be made to have Teachers benefits were removed by the education minister.
  10. The Jeep has ran out of gas and crashed.
  11. Jamaica Employ produced less than 100 jobs vs 40,000 potential jobs.
  12. MOU has been signed between government and public sector workers that will make them poorer by 2016. No increases will be made during this period.
  13. Cost of living has increased substantially.
  14. Poor people cannot get chicken back to buy anymore due to chronic shortage.
  15. Poverty rate has moved to 16.3% the highest on record for two decades.
  16. NIR at it’s lowest levels in 10yrs .

Yes Madame Prime Minister you correct, the above short score card is a perfect example of your stewardship and your ability to remain Champion of Poverty.  NOTE A champion is someone who does something well, someone who has dominated a particular area, so the Prime Minister is correct, she has done a wonderful and will continue to remain a champion of/for poverty.

The Observer further added the following comments to her

She urged the large gathering to uphold the founding principles of the party, which she said seeks to protect the poor, which constitutes the masses of the society.

This  particular  “mass” have grown quite substantially since Portia was elected in 2011, which speaks to how well she has performed during that period until now.

Now its going 3 weeks since Portia Simpson Miller and her large delegation returned from China and still mum is the word.

Why has the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce remained silent?

Why has the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica remained silent ?

Why has the Jamaica Manufactures Association remained silent?

Why has the Jamaica Exporters Association remained silent ?

Why is the Press Association of Jamaica silent ?

Why is it that no one is asking for the Prime Minister ( of Comrades) to speak to the Jamaican public over which she is supposed to be leading on the outcome of this China trip. Why is it no one is willing to find out how our hard earned cash was spent?

Why is it ok for the Prime to only speak to loyal supporters of the PNP and not to all of Jamaica. Every time I hear something from her its always coming from a PNP function, why why why.

One Response

  1. I wrote this Sept 9, 2013 and PSM last night reinforced my belief that this Prime Minister is only interested in addressing fellow party supporters.
Jamaica is need of a Prime Minister that can lead the entire country and right now PSM is a big let down.

Anyone who believes this PM is doing a good job needs to get his or her head examined.

What the hell does ” she doing her best means”?
What if your “best” is not good enough ?

If you had an employee and he was “doing his best” but from month to month , your organizations keeps missing it’s targets, how long would you continue to tolerate his “doing his best”?
