What is taking place on the unofficial campaign trail, the venom, the anger, the vitriol, the bad behaviour is all the fault of current party leader Andrew Holness, Mr new but not so different after-all.
Andrew Holness , two weeks ago when news broke of a potential challenge to his leadership, flew into a tantrum. He truly believes he is the ordained one and any challenge to his wayward and ineffective leadership so far, must be met with brute force and put down.
Andrew was very angry and threatened to expel those from the party who dared to challenge him as well as those who provides information to the media and blogs like mine, on what is taking place in the JLP. It’s Andrew’s behaviour and subsequent statements made by him ,on hearing of the potential challenge , which is largely responsible for what is taking place in the labour party today and the official campaign has not even began as yet.
While publicly Andrew is saying he welcomes the challenge, privately he is seething with anger and this is manifested in his body language when he speaks publicly about the possible challenge by Audley Shaw. Those in support of Andrew Holness have NEVER since being in opposition been so vocal on any matter including the performance of the PNP Government, but all of a sudden everyone is having party meetings and rallies and are able to energize the crowds in attendance.
I had welcomed Andrew Holness when he was elevated to the position of party leader, even though I was hoping that Christopher Tufton would have been a better leader, but I was willing to give him a chance.
I have yet to be impressed by Andrew Holness and if the lumpens in the JLP decides to keep him on as party leader, then I will be convinced that the JLP is comfortable being in opposition, where they can all collect a salary without taking on the responsibility of leadership.
Andrew Holness is a very weak and ineffective leader and has chosen to sorround himself with some of those who are a throwback to Edward Seaga dirty style of politics and all this will do NOTHING to enhance the party’s chance of an election victory.
I have never seen the JLP so vocal and strident for a long time, the sad part about all of this is, they have decided to spend all this energy dividing the supporters within the two camps vs uniting party supporters against the one of the most destructive PNP GOVERNMENT ever.
Well done Andrew Holness, you are the man who will become the next Edward Seaga, backed by “thugs” and who will ensure the party suffers two more General Elections and local Government losses before being removed from the leadership position by a new set of young turks.
All this will happen if Shaw suddenly becomes a chicken and in the face of intimidation decides to drop his challenge or should he decide to go ahead, fails to gain the votes of the majority of the delegates and loses.
Word is Audley is credible, his approach and that of his camp is one of low rhetoric and more on preserving the legacy of the party, while seeking to remove the PNP from office. His camp has not launched any all out attacks on the Holness Camp and has acted with great restraint thus far despite the vitriol being directed at him.
Word is Audley is the man the money is backing, but he needs to maintain his composure and move to secure key delegates as they would ultimately be the one’s who can make or break him.
Audley who is quite boisterous, cantankerous and loud is surprisingly acting like the one who is bring a new kind of politics to the table vs Andrew Holness .

The water boy is now looking like the golden boy. Because them bypass Audley for Pearnel. Them Bypass him for Bruce. Them bypass him for Tufton, Them Bypass him for Andrew.. and when all have failed, he is now seen as the real deal.
jay.. you know how to pick losers. Cause Tufton could not even win his seat, how him expect to lead the party
Actually, Jamaica lost when Tufton was not elected. So its Jamaicans who love to pick losers and this was manifested in what is going on in the country between 1989 and today.
The worse you perform, the better is your chances of winning. When people like Bobby Pickersgill can win elections after elections, its proof that Jamaicans love losers in politics.
In sports we don’t like losers, so maybe we should make politics be like sports. 🙂
IMPLOSION!
