Where is the Jamaican media ?

The Prime Minister and her entourage visited China for a week, where some  large-scale and far-reaching agreements were consummated . During the visit we heard of some of the agreements that were signed for both investments to Jamaica and grants to build schools and some support for water projects.

It’s been a number of days since they have returned and having gotten more than a day’s rest after such a long plane ride, I would have thought the tough talking and probing media would be hounding members of the delegation and the Prime Minister for many interviews.

The Jamaica media suddenly seems to have become as soft as cotton candy and seems satisfied to report on what the members of the delegations wants to get reported. They sent news releases which we readily printed and for which we are grateful, but that cannot be the end of it.

I would think Jamaicans would want to hear from the horse mouth, more details on the agreements signed both in terms of economic benefits, greater level of partnership etc, but sadly the media has decided that they have received enough information and will not seek to inform the public beyond what they were already given and subsequently reported.

This is certainly not what I expect from the Jamaican media, but I guess they are waiting for the PM to decide when she will “pity” them and provide them with an interview. I would not be surprised if the OPM ask that, they submit the questions they plan to ask in writing 5 days ahead of the interview/press conference  and would not be equally if they agree to those conditions.

The local media  fraternity is letting down the country badly !

  1. The media only has strength for a JLP government.

  2. The “presstitutes are playing true to form.

  3. A reporter microphone is because of the probing questions being asked on the information minister and there is no outcry from the press association of Jamaican and the media Fraternity , why ?

  4. As it would have turned out, there were four persons from the media present and not a word from them.
So much for the independence of the Jamaican media.

Now I know why they are so silent !
