The Government and the country needs investment and cannot allow itself to be bullied by any group and groupings of people. We have allowed billions of dollars of investment to slip from our grasp to elsewhere and is so doing we have failed and continue to fail, to realize our true potential.
What the point for example of protecting wild life while Jamaicans are starving due to lack of jobs and opportunities.
Jamaicans are fast becoming endangered species and unless swift and decisive actions are taken, many more will become victim of not only crime, but hunger, as the economic situation continues to spiral out of control.
Any type of construction no matter where or what will impact the environment, so does that mean we do not build?
What JET, NEPA etal needs to ensure is that the process being used is done so in a manner to minimize the long term impact on the environment.
The new buzz word is sustainable development and so one of the consideration for having the development of GOAT island, is to relocate the endangered species to another habitat and the Chinese should commit to that process as part of the deal in getting this hub.
Let’s create a new habitat in some other location , if we believe that it is that important, but let’s not allow the investment to flow elsewhere because we cannot figure this out. We have many persons in Jamaica, with Professor status, Phd’s, MBA. BSc’s and I am sure it’s full time we start using these folks in a productive manner vs sprouting off theories buried in text books, let them do some real work.
While I am saying this, I am well aware that Bobby Pickersgill is not one of those cabinet ministers who is thorough and pay attention to details, given some agreements I have seen him sign in the past. So what JET and others must ensure is that, as part of the social partnership agreement just signed and the consultation process which is a critical art of that agreement , is to insist that if GOAT island is to be developed, then commitment must be made to create a new habitat for the endangered species present in this area and it must form part of any agreement for the development of the HUB.
Enough of the bleeding hearts, we need to get this darn country moving forward vs putting stumbling blocks in the way of development.
A dat me seh .

There is nothing wrong with development, but it has to be done in a environmentally sustainable way. Makes no sense to make a few dollars now while permanently destroying our natural resources.
During these negotiations it cannot be the Chinese way or the highway. We have a duty to protect our environment because we are the ones going to be stuck with it.
My issue is the groups are sometimes taking the wrong approach. Instead of trying to stop the developed all together, they should either propose an alternate path or set of steps that must be adhered as part of the development process.
Bobby will sign over the country to anyone if one is not careful. He loves to be able to gloat about how man agreements he has signed, even while he fails to ensure he fully understands what he is signing to.
Its one minister who is way up on my list of worse performers ever !
