Over the last few days, I have been pointing bloggers to the country that has widely been considered one of the worst countries in the hemisphere and the strides they are making to change that perception and reality.
Today the Gleaner is reporting actions that have been taken by Haiti and never before seen in Jamaica as they move to rid the country of corruption and move further up the ranking of most reputable countries in the world.
Here is the Jamaica Gleaner report
Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe says more than 60 people, including government officials, have been indicted and jailed on corruption charges, as the authorities implement new measures to fight fraud and corruption.
He said the Michel Martelly government would continue to crack down on those engaged in corruption and that additional resources are being made available to the anti-corruption unit and the anti-contraband brigades.
Note : Government officials have been indicted and jailed on corruption charges.
Can anyone see anything on this scale ever occurring in Jamaica despite the wide-spread levels of corruption that exist in the country?
Are the Jamaican people really serious about corruption ?
Maybe its time we now begin to take lessons from Haiti as it seems they have a plan and if Finance Minister Peter Phillips is to be believed, this Government does not have a plan.
