Roger Clarke blames the JLP for Chicken back shortage !

The Government that promised to ensure that Jamaicans eat pork and oxtail during the run up to the 2011 general elections, did not fulfill that promise and left many who relished that thought to continue eating chicken back.

The best government for the poor is now unable to guarantee a good supply of chicken back for poor people and poor people are about to get really fed up. Roger Clarke in one speech said the following       ” Jamaicans consumed the largest amount on chicken back under the previous JLP administration”.

What Roger Clarke is suggesting , was that the JLP administration did such a poor job of running the country, that it made people so poor that they turned to chicken back , resulting in much larger imports, which is now partly to be blamed for  the shortage of chicken back.

I waited for 72 hrs after hearing that “tripe” to see if any of the established media house would rake Roger over the proverbial coal for such an asinine statement, but they all failed to do so, leaving commonsenseja once again to carry that mantel.

Roger Clarke also gave a number of other reasons for the shortage:

1. Americans are now consuming more chicken back as part of the cuts being used for increased summer barbeques. I wonder how he got that information, which appears to be not true
2. One processing plant has been shutdown and one is running at about 50% capacity.
3. The rich Chinese population is now beginning to consume more chicken back and with 1.2 billion people, that is a whole lot of chicken back.

Now if 1 is true 2 cannot be true and if 2 is true one cannot be true, just read both causes again.

If more Americans are consuming that section of the chicken as part of the cut for summer barbecue’s, then it strikes me as odd that one major processing plant would be closed and one is running 50%, that does not make any sense to “commonsenseja”.

Similarly if one plant is closed and one is running 50% it means that Americans would have been consuming less chicken back not more, since the supply is not readily available.

On the other hand , If more Chinese folks are consuming chicken back it inconceivable that the Americans would continue to keep one processing plant closed and another running at 50%, that does not on the face of it appears to make good business sense. I know that comrades are not good stewards at accounting and finance so I will excuse Roger Clarke’s ignorance in this regard.

I don’t “Roger that” line of reasoning from the agriculture minister who seems to have been caught flat-footed by this latest embarrassing episode , which really summarize the general  poor performance of the PNP government and their continue failure as a party to accept responsibility for what is taking place .

I have been told that one can expect the price of chicken back to soar to record high. I have also received information that the process of “marrying” products , which is a throwback to the wicked 1970’s is set to return as the product shortage is expected to last to the end of the year.

So the PNP  now has made life a living nightmare as Portia promised back in 2007 to the point where many Jamaicans will have to go without meat, as chicken back shortage will continue to be with us at least until December 2013.

Poor people getting fed-up…….
