The PNP in the campaign leading up to the 2011 promised to rescue and turn around the Jamaican economy that, according to them was badly damaged not by the meltdown of the global economy, but by the JLP government.
They delivered the Progressive Agenda, which was hailed by public “independent” commentators as one of the best document ever produced to take Jamaica forward. They further created another document called their manifesto, which was once again hailed as a great document by commentators.
Fast forward 19 months later and I have not heard the words progressive agenda from either the PNP or the commentators many of whom now have been handed lofty positions in the public sector.
There is nothing progressive about the PNP’s agenda and truth be told, it had better been called the regression agenda, because that is the direction the PNP government has been taking the country since they came into power.
One barometer on how the country is growing or decaying is the level of theft, robbery, larceny that exist in the country and I can tell you this. Robberies, theft, larceny is at its highest ever level recorded in Jamaica as desperate and hungry people will stop at nothing just to “eat a food”.
Mind you I am NOT supporting the taking anything belonging to someone else, regardless of the justification given by the person doing the taking, wrong is wrong. What I will however say is, a man will not allow his family to starve to death, if he can steal from someone else to feed himself and his family.
When the poor cannot get protein aka chicken back , which cost $68 per pound to feed themselves and their kids, you know things are bad and are about to get worse. When you have a seemingly out of touch minister suggesting that the poor who can barely afford the $68 per pound product, should seek out oxtail and $400 per lb you know the PNP has once again lost their way.
The world championships has traditionally offered Jamaicans that small window of escape as we tend to turn out in numbers to watch our top athletes perform, but did anyone notice that the “fire in the belly” of Jamaicans has been extinguished this time around.
Not many persons turned out in the squares of HWT or others to watch the big screens as they did even last year or the previous years.
One person to whom I spoke said ” Jay me nuh have to time fi jump up and celebrate nuttin right yah now. Today a sunday and me barely can find anything to put on fire to feed mi hungry belly pickney dem, so how mi fi go jump up and dung, dem deh weh a run betta dan mi. Mi love dem still and mi appreciate wah dem a do fi d country, but right yah now nuttin nah gwan. Mi neva tink say mi wud a ever be critical of mama P , but mi a tell u see right now she nuh care bout wi, she beg we fi vote fe dem and dem we take care a we but d only ting mi a see is dem a tek care a dem self and we deh pan we BL@#T Cl!@#$t own.
Trust me a pure fu$#ery a gwan J. Now mi know why u a deal wid dem so and mi caan blame u , is just that a donkey years we deh bout yah a support dem cuz we just nuh like how d labourite dem deal wid poor people. Mi nah tell u nuh lie but mi dun wid d election ting, dem caan pay me fi vote fe dem again, but mi find it hard fi vote fi labourite still, but u neva no wha can gwan.
D way tings a go, it ago get even worse cuz u see d boys dem pon d corner dem a get desperate and me mean desparate. A nuff a dem a go pon d road now fi go buss a work and try bring back some food. Mi nah say mi support wha dem a do still, but big man, we haffi eat food. D man dem now a even use d likke yute dem fi carry d tool dem go drop off a certain spot and den dem go pick dem up, but mi nuh like fi see d likkle pickney dem a get mix up so, cuz when police ketch dem wid d gun, d famiy unda pressure fi pay back fi d gun.
Mi bredda as mi say it ruffh, but a Jamaica dis and so we haffi just keep on fighting d fight, d strong will survive and d weak will just drop out, a jus so d ting setup.
Life in Jamaica has always been a struggle, I cannot say we have had any long stretch where we have had good economic growth and development. There has been some sparks now and again, but as soon as those sparks begin to burn, here comes the PNP to douse that fire with water. ( I guess one can argue that the PNP candidates did not vote for themselves, so is we Jamaicans)
Portia Simpson Miller and her large whatnot were never expected to take Jamaica out of doldrums at least not in my books, but honestly never in my wildest dreams did I see them doing as poor a job as they are doing now.
I have been told ” u nuh see nuttin yet in terms of robberies” it is going to get worse and nowhere is spared as people steal anything they can get their hands on, in the hopes of selling them to ” eat a food”.
In less than 19 months, the PNP has damaged the Jamaican economy beyond repair and if I were the JLP I would not be too keen on taking over what will be left of Jamaica come 2016.
The private sector, civil society, the churches, the union, the academia and a naive and trusting Jamaican population have all played a role in getting us to where we are today and nothing they say today can change that fact.
I continue to weep when I see what Jamaica has become and pray that one day, the people will stand up and say ” We have had enough, we want changes, we will not wait 5 yrs if you guys screw around and fail to deliver the bacon or take the steps required to do so. We will demand constitutional changes that could see a party being ejected from power before the end of the election cycle “
Bless .

Jay, I wrote a letter recently called facts and fallacies in the observer read it. Jay, the pnp has not achieved a single thing. Most of the pnp’s programmes even the street light saving initiative was started by the jlp. Portia had no vision for the country she only wanted power. For example, she will never speak about the economy, but she knows everything about sports, and she is quick to bash her critics but we should not be surprise becuase she does not respect the people of Jamaica
world championship time now. Bolt and Shelly win !!!. Do you guys live on politics everyday ?. Celebrate our achievements

Jamaicans are happy with our sportmen and women. They give us something to smile about in our low moments . Outside of these 11 seconds and as long as the 4 x 400m takes to run, there is not much to celebrate.

This confirms what was mentioned as part of the conversation about in patios, the 2nd to last sentence.
@ Cullcull I was not joking.
HALF-WAY-TREE square was missing the usual crowd yesterday as two big screens projected the women’s 100-metre final from the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia, which had among the line-up Jamaica’s own Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Kerron Stewart
