Portia Simpson Miller boldly declared that corruption would NOT be tolerated under her watch. She also indicated that she will move to strengthen the powers on the anti-corruption organization in Jamaica to ensure they are able to carry out their mandate without fear or favour.
Within the first yr of office the Prime Minister and the PNP have already moved to REDUCE the powers of one of the most powerful anti corruption organization in Jamaica and that is the Office of the Contractor General. Amazingly this was greeted by glee from many in the party and many other Jamaicans, who now see the opportunity presented under the PNP to engage in corrupt activities without being exposed.
Just last week I recognize that something was amiss when I began to hear comments from the JDF and the JCF, which got me very concerned given the corrupt nature of the latter organization.
The JDF and the JCF were complaining about the powers vested within INDECOM indicating that this INDEPENDENT ( my emphasis) was too POWERFUL and suggesting its powers needed to be curtailed.
I would not have paid it too much attention until I recognized the following.
NATIONAL SECURITY Minister Peter Bunting has charged that certain powers given to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) could derail partnerships with international security bodies that join forces with Jamaica to fight organised crime.
Amazing a senior minister of the PNP administration who is no other than the Minister of National Security is supporting the notion that INDECOM is too powerful ! This is indeed worrying as for one, I do not accept the reason given by Mr Bunting and I see this a precursor to the PNP seeking to REDUCE the powers of INDECOM.
I have always believed that corruption thrives under the PNP and its supported by the party in many respects. If one should just look at the tainted history of Jamaica’s longest-serving Prime Minister, who resigned as minister of Finance over alleged corrupts actions and returned and was re-elected over and over again by the Jamaica electorate. Under that PM Jamaica experienced the most scandals/corrupt acts in its history, but that did nothing to sway the Jamaican voters from voting PNP.
I am therefore left to believe that a significant portion of the Jamaica population and electorate are also inherently corrupt and so are very comfortable with the party, which they believe provides support in that regard.
Now just recently the PNP received some advice from Singapore and here was the advice:
Zero tolerance for corruption and the strong rule of law are two strategies Jamaica will need to utilise in its efforts to achieve economic growth and sustainable development, according to Professor Tommy Koh, ambassador-at-large in Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Now any thinking Jamaica looking on would realize what I choose to term an “Aha” moment, but I will break it down just to make sure people reading can understand what is really happening in Jamaica.
- Zero tolerance for corruption
- Strong rule of law
- Economic Growth and sustainable development.
Mathematical this can be expressed as follows.
Equation #1
Zero tolerance for corruption + strong rule of law = economic growth and sustainable development .
Now if the above statement is true and I have no doubt that is it, then the following must also be true.
Equation #2
Tolerance for corruption + absence of strong rule of law = economic decline and unsustainable development.
The later of the two equations sum of the performance of every PNP administration that has been responsible for leading Jamaica since independence and I would like on the behalf of the thinking Jamaica population to say thank you to the professor, we like what you have suggested and think it’s really what is required for Jamaica.
On the other hand I would like to say no thank you, the majority of Jamaica like things the way they are and continues to express support and desire to be lead by a government that best represent their beliefs and ideals and as such Jamaica will NEVER realize its true potential until that mentality changes, which sadly I don’t think it ever will.

Jay I am now more than ever convinced that you are an affiliate of the JLP and is using this blog to push the JLP’s agenda.
You have used this blog to attack the PNP every step of the way and single-handedly has done more than the entire JLP combined since they lost the election.
Try as you may your strategy will not work, so you can keep on writing all you want, as they people you are appealing to are not the one’s that call the shots come election day.
Jay’s comments.
Well firstly , the fact that you are writing means you are reading, which is a good thing. The more you read is the more you will likely learn and hopefully you will become transformed and in so doing work to change the thinking of others, so they are in a better position when it comes time to make a decsion on who governs the country.
Just for the records, I am not an affiliate of any political party and his my “attacks” or should I say exposure of the PNP, is no different from my “attack” or exposure of the JLP between 2009/2010.
Jamaicans too often choose not to read and instead focus on what I term “recency effect”.
Recency effect is the when folks (choose to) recall to use the most recent events before them and will use these to take far reaching positions.
I waited for this as I knew it would be coming under a PNP government.
Wrong Way For Jamaica – Business Leaders Wary Of Singapore Prosperity Road Map’s Value To Island
Some local business leaders are expressing reservations about the so-called ‘Singapore model’ being used as the formula to break the back of Jamaica’s chronic economic woes.

I guess Bunting say this coming, oh what good news and music to the ears.
Constitutional Court Says INDECOM Empowered To Arrest Police
http://jamaica-gleaner.com/latest/article.php?id=46841
I guess the PNP will soon move to reduce the powers on INDECOM for fear they may even get power to arrest the politicians, something the police are reluctant to do.
I am convinced that the PNP is inherently corrupt.
What is was the purpose of this single sentence post? My guess is you woke up out of a dream and make that comment. I think you need some form of psychological assessment, possible some MEDs. You are officially off the cliff and need some form of immediate intervention.
Diagnosis: Redundant-PNPitis. No known cure, but treatable. Note: Very important you stay on your MEDs continuously. Any relapse will result in severe headaches, uncontrollable bouts of PNP-related diatribes, excessive fixation with the PNP matters and persons, especially, the recurring need to speak negatively about the Rt. Honorable Portia Simpson-Miller. You should stay away from your own blog for at least a month.
Jay, any Jamaican News issued by Standard & Poor’s related to their rating? Nothing lately? Good? Bad?
