International Press “Gotcha” moment on Jamaica

I am getting increasingly worried (even though I quote them extensively) that the international press may just be blowing this Jamaican “drug” scandal out of proportion and let me explain why. It’s a widely held belief in the UK and the USA than Jamaican athletes have found some wonder drug that is somehow undetectable by WADA accredited labs and is the reason for our astonishing performance on the world stage.

Now that our name brand Olympians have returned adverse findings they are pointing to this as the smoking gun, which in their mind lends credence to this belief.

There is no doubt that many are jealous our success and have been long searching for something to suggest we have been cheating vs achieving these good results naturally. Many of us have also been lead to believe that one cannot attain good results without banned substance being used to enhance one’s performance.

Asafa Powell especially have been receiving an disproportionate amount of coverage on the international scene and Sherone Simpson has been caught up in that by virtue of them using the same trainer.

Tyson Gay, who is also an elite athletes is noticeably not being afford the same level of coverage and much details have not been released on what was found in his system and who he may have ” trusted and who betrayed his trust”. I have to ask why is this the case ?

It is therefore important that JADCO , JAAA and the Sports Ministry in Jamaica as well as any other body as well as the media carefully look at the many reports now surfacing and ensure, where the information is not factual they must move  to set the record straight.

It is also very important that JADCO release pertinent information it may have to set dispel what appears to be some misinformation being reported, because if we don’t , we may do permanent damage to Jamaica’s imagine in the sporting world.
