Gas prices ( tun up) soars by $2.89 per liter !

Gas prices rose today by almost $3.00 per liter to hit the highest prices ever in Jamaica’s history and shows no signs of slowing down.

This massive increase in gas as well as diesel oil, will mean consumers can expect to see big increases in their electricity bill in the coming weeks, given that ADO is used extensively in the generation of electricity at some of our power plant.

Everyting tun up big time, but its still not hurting enough !

  1. goddamn, and by monday will will see the news report a 10 cent reduction, lol. why I don’t even know.

  2. Notice there are no vociferous demands for the government to cap the gas tax or do something to alleviate the high price for petrol like it was some years ago.

The JGRA, public transport operators and the then opposition were up in arms for the JLP government to do something when the price per litre was round $80.00.

Now it is in excess $120.00 and people just seems cool with it. I even hear the head of one of the taxi associations (NATO) on television recently outlining the benefits of the flat tax and encouraging taxi operators to come on stream. This is all well and good, but I bet if this was done under previous regime he would be singing a different tune.

I don’t know what it will take for Jamaicans to wake up to what is happening. Things are getting harder everyday and we are just going along for the ride. This IMF deal by itself won’t help us. The government hasn’t as yet articulated its growth strategy. They seem to be waiting for some miracle or divine help from above to get the country moving.

    • I am amazed at how the country is being wrecked by this incompetent government and the people remain silent.

I have come to the conclusion that Jamaicans are happy being poor !

      • Jay, I read somewhere that someone made a racist statement in the USA that goes like this: “George Bush was so bad that he got a nigger (Obama) elected as President.

In applying the sentiment to the Jamaican situation one can say: “the JLP is so pathetic, it got Portia elected.”

How it that? You keep hyperventilating about the how bad and incompetent the PNP is, but ask yourself why is the JLP getting absolutely no traction?

Gas Tax Rollback – Government Cuts Petrol Prices, PNP Calls Off Protest

THE BRUCE Golding administration yesterday rolled back the rate of ad valorem tax on fuel at the eleventh hour from 15 per cent to 10 per cent, effective Thursday, in an apparent bid to ward off national protests.

Following a marathon meeting of Cabinet, the Government stated that the temporary reduction in the gas tax would lower petrol prices by between $4 and $5 per litre

  5. JLP must be a very poor opposition party because it cannot seem to rally the people to protest against this very oppressive administration .

As Calsonic said, the PNP was going to ” LOCK DUNG” the country when gas price was around $80.00 /lt, its now north of $120 or a 50% increase but there is no hint of protest.

I guess its NOT hurting enough as yet !

  6. The JLP has been giving the the government a lot of leeway in carrying out its mandate without looking to mobilise the masses in demonstrations. But at the end of the day this meek-like approach will get them nowhere and allow the government to continue go along its merry way.

  7. When the fuel tax was first implemented, i made the point that it is extremely ridiculous to pay the same tax on a tractor-trailer that on an average gives about 4.5 – 5 mpg while a vehicle that gives 18-25 mpg pays the same. The transportation organizations did nor said nothing. Now that the weight restrictions are taking effect it is becoming more apparent. I suspect that the “big” players in the industry are not hurting because they have “alternative” supplies?
