At the beginning of June, businessman Metry Seaga was said to have filed court documents in which he was pushing to get the Industry and Commerce Minister, Anthony Hylton , to pay him US$122,000 , which was owed over a 6 yr period.
Mr Hylton reported that he would have paid Mr Seaga fully by the end of the week, ie June 7, 2013. It’s now July 1, 2013 and we have reports that Mr Seaga remains unpaid to this day. We have uncovered the following sequence of events, which we not only find disturbing but unethical to say the least.
Six years ago Mr Hylton purchased a house from Mr Seaga and made a promise to complete payments, which were never realized. Documents made available showed the following.
March 12, 2010.
- Mr Hylton signed a promissory note to pay Mr Seaga, but that note expired and he was not paid.
February 13, 2013
- Mr Hylton signed another promissory note to pay Mr Seaga, that note expired also and Mr Seaga was never paid
June 3, 2013
- Mr Hylton told the Gleaner he would make good on the outstanding payment by June 7, 2013. That date passed once again and Mr Seaga remains unpaid.
July 1, 2013
- Mr Hylton lawyer writes to Mr Seaga indicating he will be paid in a matter of three weeks, which should put us to on or about , July 19, 2013
The big question is will Mr Hylton make good on this promise date ?
If not Mr Hylton does not make good on this new promise he risk being declared bankrupt by the local courts, which could see him being forced to resign and give up his ministerial position as well as his seat as Member of Parliament.
Where is the Parliamentary Integrity Commission, are they asleep ?

Why has this been allowed to drag on and the Minister continues to retain his position. Is integrity such a missing element in Jamaica. In most countries the people would have demand the minister keep his promise or resign.
It cannot be a good sign for a government minister to be owing and being sued for what could almost be considered fraud having agreed to pay and miss those payments on at least three occasions.
Why has the public been son quiet on this one, why are we willing to accept this type of behaviour.
One cannot separate what happens one’s personal life from one’s political life as there is a carry over effect.
Can Mr Hylton really be trusted to keep a commitment ?
These are valid questions, that need answers.
Bowy it come in like alone Jay a beat up im gum on this one.
What a disgrace for a public , elected official.
Mr Hylton must do the honourable thing and resign and focus on his personal matters as this is no doubt a distraction from his job as a Minister.
