Crises in the health sector, Jamaicans will die !

Doctors are warning that changes that are coming in the health sector, will mean less health care for patients, longer waiting times and a general decline in services. In addition it was noted that persons are likely to DIE unnecessarily due to inability of Doctors to access medical equipment and an overall reduction is working hrs as the Ministry moves to reduce cost.

I continue to be amazed at what Jamaicans are willing to accept from our government, I am all about increasing efficiency but I reject the notion that Jamaicans must get worse health care in order for us to meet IMF prescription.

Are Jamaicans willing to stand by and watch their loves ones die by an uncaring and incompetent government?

Mr Redwood definitely knew what was coming and decided he would have none of it .

Let’s see how Jamaicans will react, when hospitals become a place you go to die.

  1. I suspect that there is just as much corruption in the health sector. As it relates to equipment, a Foundation that my Wife and I are involved in sought to donate some Dialysis machines to a public institution along with bringing a biomedical engineer to provide some training. The institution rejected the offer and shortly after a call was received from someone wanting them for private purposes. They are still in our garage. The shortage of equipment and drugs is a “self induced” state
orchestrated by those who benefit from being monopolistic suppliers.

    • Now you talking. Even if you and your wife had donated those diaysis Machines, tthey would either be diverted by Medical Practioners who happens to work at these public Hospitals and have their private practice or they would send their “private” patients to the institution for dialysis and collect a fee where the Public Institution wouldn’t see a dime. I can tell you of a large number of cases of such corrupt act. I wouldn’t be surprise if most donated medical equipment end up in the private practices of of these MDs. Often times, if you do not have athe “links” at UHUWI, you cannot get access to certain procedures or medical specialist.

A few years ago, there was a Medical Doctor (highly compensated specialist) that was essentially sending his private patients for services at a Government run facility for services for which he was the only beneficiary. Now tell me, how does our elected leaders curtail such practices, when there is a chain of personnel involved who are tasked with the responsibility to look out for the interest of government resources? No matter what “our” good intentions, there are those selfish bastards who are silently undermining what you as a elected leader is trying to accomplish. It only takes a few key individuals to wreak havoc on a system that is set up to benefit the general public. I can give you a few examples of the corruption within the Health Sector, but will only expose me. Bottonline; it is not a pretty picture.
