She deserves it. She’s worked so hard to take us to where we are today.
I may have to withdraw this post of the PM handlers can come clean on this question.
Is it vacation or has the PM gone for medical treatment ?
Jay, this is the part of you I don’t appreciate – the apparent insensitivity that, in the end, we are all human. I must tell you that it is this trait perfected by the last JLP administration that most cost them the election. When, for example, they were firing public servants, they ensured the utmost humiliation.
Stay with the issues, Jay.
Mich,
When in public life you have to deal with the good the bad and the ugly. It comes with the turf. If you do not want the questions ask then don’t venture.
The media in Jamaica is way to nice, just look what takes place in USA, Europe etc. A public official is seen with a woman other than his partner and its made public, forcing that person to resign.
A public official smoked pot years ago and have to defend himself 20yrs later.
Someone has personal issues and its made public forcing that person to resign because its felt that his/her issues can compromise the job.
We in Jamaica are way to nervous about digging into politicians space and continue to take what they give to us.
I make no apologies for asking what I believe to be pertinent questions or lay bare anything that I believe can compromise a persons ability to properly execute their function.
That is what the public is supposed to do.
I am not in agreement with embarrassing anyone really out of spite, but if the situation is of such that exposing the truth means the person becomes embarrassed then so be it, the truth should not be hidden especially when the bigger picture is the nation is at risk.
While I am it, did Hylton pay Seaga last week.
See what I mean?

The defense mechanism of squids is to squirt a cloudy substance to impair visibility. I made a simple point, which is that a person’s health should not be made the subject of attack. In response, you are “all over the place.”
Of course, it is your prerogative to continue down that path, if you so desire.
Where is the attack?
Come on folks, let’s stop getting all sentimental here.
Is the pm on vacation or is something else going on, when did that become an attack ?

In addition I would like to ask, in the case the PM is unable to continue, who is the deputy Prime Minister?
I guess that would be considered an inappropiate question also ?
Hmm

Given your public disdain for the Honorable Lady, it is very telling the questions you elect to pose at this point, assuming of course she has any life threatening illness. A sympathetic person, with a “clean” heart would wish the Prime Minister a speedy recovery and might probably say something nice to her concern relatives.
But a “unclean” heart is bypassing all those niceties and want to know who the possible successor would be in the event of the PM becomes incapacitated or dead. I know you hate PSM, but here you go again, putting the horse before the hearse. What a despicable person Jay is. You make be want to puke!
As you know, I not one to sugarcoat anything, so do not look for any cover in this direction. I say it as I see it. Now I know why I’m a comrade. Labourites have no hearts, show no empathy at the appropriate time and are downright disgusting. We witness one staunched Labourite on this blog going as far as question the type of cancer the Minister of Education had, almost suggesting that an individual have a choice in the selection process of the type/character of the illness that afflicts them. I say there are Satan Forces at work on this blog and Jay is heading demonic line. I would like to see Jay defend such a ridiculous position or will he bow his head in shame, ignoring my post having come to the realization that his opinions are morally indefensible.
Ignore reality if you so choose. We must learn to put plans in place to address situations that are likely to occur vs hoping for the best.
Look around you and you see the signs of piss poor planning resulting in poor results for over 50yrs.
I never wished bad as you are suggesting instead I ask the question that any sensible person who cares about the direction of the nation would ask.
I guess you are not one of those persons, which is very typical and the reason why Jamaica is scrapping at the bottom of the barrel.
Fail to plan and plan to fail, I forgot that is the pnp way.

Test, your are dumb. You call yourself a comrade after the statements which Maxine Henry Wilson and Omar Davies made. Omar claimed that he exploited his position as finance minister for the betterment of his party and Maxine claimed that Jamaicans do not care about corruption when she wanted to insult their intelligence You call yourself a comrade after Operation Pride, a project which benefitted PJ’S cronies and not the poor. You call yourself a comrade after PJ and Verna Parchment decided to migrate when the jlp won the election in 2007, indicating that they put the pnp over the country. You call yourself a comrade when the pnp has the most deplorable garrisons in the country. Test, you really need to educate yourself. In 1999 the Economic Intelligence Unit predicted that Jamaica’s economy was expected to contract by the year 2000, however the world economy would boom. Test you need to get a brain
Test has spoken like a typical comrade. They don’t want anyone speak anything remotely negative about their beloved Manley party.
We are in need trouble as a country and we currently don’t have any leadership. We are drifting like a rudderless ship.
Heh heh heh…you are aware that labeling me as a typical Comrade”is one of the biggest/highest compliment you can bestow upon me…right? Unlike yourself, I’m not going to run away from who I am or hide behind some invisible shield and pretend I am nonaligned. It is very obvious where some bloggers allegiances lie, even when they publicly proclaim they are apolitical. In fact, they are the first to label “others” as a devotee to the opposing party. Typically, they will dodge the question, when directly asked, which political party they support, choosing instead to cloak themselves in the hypocritical cloth of being non-partisan.
The difference between you and I are quite evident. You firmly believe that the solution to the many ills that face our small nation lies with our elected leaders. I have long maintained that our country is ungovernable, given the level of indiscipline among its people and the cultural mentality that “someone owes them something” that seems to permeate the entire fabric of our society. I’m not surprised in the least, that you seek to lay the entire blame for our country’s malaise at the feet of our (elected political) leaders, instead of casting a wider net and looking at ALL the dynamics at work.
Due to this phenomenon, on average every eight years we see our people replacing one party with the next. The sad realities are the majority of the factors (I can provide a long list of what these factors at your request) that makes our citizens lives a “living hell” is beyond the controls of politicians. They are mostly self-inflicted, with far reaching effects.
If you choose to continue your unproductive ways which seeks to maligned my views or even worst, looking for solutions in the wrong places, then it is only fair that I think it is not a far stretch of one’s imagination to describe your thought process as a “rudderless ship”, drifting into the abyss.
The populace got to this point by the poor “leadership” exhibited by those elected. Education is a CRITICAL part of the development of any Society. Check out our educational statistics. An educated populace is more disciplined and governable.
Huh? Let me make sure I understand what you are saying here. Are you saying that “poor (elected) leadership” is why our educational system produces (for the lack of a better term) poorly educated populace? If that is the case, what would explain the differences in performance among various high school institutions, when you contrast their performance over time? For example, could you explain the performance of say, Ardenne, Glenmuir, Munro College and Herbert Morrison Technical High, then (pre-1990) and now (post-2010)?
How would you say our Educational System (pre-college) stacks up with those in Canada (where I think you said you lived for a period of time)? I will follow up my comments base on your answers to these fundamental questions.
Test, high schools only magnify the problem. What we see is a product of our early childhood institutions. I attended Munro and a significant number of students came from prep schools and the best of our primary schools. Of course schools with a similar demographic would show some degree of superiority in performance. Over the years there has been ZERO accountability at the early childhood level(not most prep schools), as a result we have a conveyor belt system of producing children ill-prepared for the next level. We are still grappling with that today as i am currently grappling with the same problem at an institution in my area. Who sets standards and policies? Who enforces policies? Who audits and evaluates performances? That is what governing is all about.
Test Jamaicans are lazy because Michael Manley told them in the 70s that the wealth of the rich belonged to them. The pnp started the eat a food mentality. That’s why the people love the pnp
Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…..How does one respond to such utter nonsense? Why do I get the feeling that you are just parroting what you heard around the dinner table from you “rock stone” labourite parents? My six year old daughter could fashion a more coherent set of statements than the dribble you posted above. Let me sleep on it; maybe the post will disappear once awake and I’ll realize it was just a bad dream. Or to save face, why not drop Jay an email requesting that he remove the post in its entirety. Pleading temporary insanity might add some sense of urgency to the removal process.
Lipton, Michael Manley NEVER said anything as such! That has been the propaganda of the status quo. The “extraction of wealth” from our Country is what he sought to address. This was and is still our problem. Self Reliance, Free Education and Heath Care, Identity and Self Confidence, Workers Rights and Protection. All ingredients that would have impacted positively all the economic indicators from a strategic plan perspective.
Wow I see noting has changed on this blog. Same ole same ole
You see when our party is in power we blame everything that is going wrong on all manner of things but the big elephant in the room.
Yes I believe we are ungovernable, but what are the leaders doing about it? Nothing. All they (JLP & PNP) want is political power.
I like the JLP’s philosophy of economic development but am I blinded to the party’s missteps? No.
Until we decide to get serious as a nation and deal with the basic things first such as:
Indiscipline
Wanton disrespect of rules and regulations
The hustling (eat a food) mentality
Unplanned pregnancies in the innercities and rural areas
We will be a dog chasing its tail.
Calsonic, Test is an idiot. Wikileaks had no confidence in Portia and Peter Phillips had no confidence in Portia. People like Test do not care about macroeconomic, they only want to feel great
Wikileaks had no confidence…
Really? So “Wikileaks ” is now a person? You have been playing video games nonstop for the past 24-hours with Margaret Thatcher and Lee Kuan Yew…haven’t you? 😀 😀
Get some sleep and when your head clears you can rejoin the blog. It is obvious that you are not thinking straight and as such, I will ignore your childish rants as that of an individual who is suffering from sleep deprivation.
Test, whether you want to believe it or not that’s exactly what Manley did in the 70s, he encouraged a freeness mentality. Most people on this blog, already now that comrades are not bright and you keep proving it
Sam Sharpe, I think that by now all members on this blog should know that I have the greatest respect for the international right wing. Michael Manley was of the view that the international economic system needed to be reformed in order to promote the development of the third world. Although he was from the upper classes he was not blind to the realities of the poor. However, the way in which he tried to reform the society failed miserable. Instead of promoting innovation and foreign investment he told the rich to go to Miami. Furthermore, too many radical were apart of his administration. For example, the Pickersgill’s Commission for Political Purity was created to purge the civil service of capitalist. If you want to reduce inequality you must promote wealth creation, you cannot disincentivize production. A perfect example is the introduction of the bauxite levy. In 1974 Jamaica was producing 15 million tons of bauxite. By 1979, bauxite production had fallen by more than 20 percent to less than 12 million tonnes. If you want a prosperous economy you must educate the people properly, not deceive them. Skilled workers build economy not uneducated masses. the sugar cooperatives created by Manley failed to increase output. IN 1965, Jamaica produced 506,000 tonnes of sugar, by 1980 less than 300,000 tonnes were produced. Tourism also declined because many persons were of the view that Jamaica was communist. By 1980 the economy had declined by 25% and the external debt was equivalent to 82% of GDP. Sam Sharpe, Manley was just a misguided man who did not understand capitalism. Deng Xiaoping was the man who restored China, he promoted wealth creation he didn’t bash the rich. Mao destroyed China. Manley should have adopted a more conservative approach. According to Joan Williams, someone I greatly admire; hence my decision to call the show every friday “Manley was loved by the people but he had no vision” Sam Sharpe you are a bright man grow up. Manley was an awful leader with no vision, the columnists of the 70s believed so, Lee Kuan Yew said it. Just grow up
You quote willingly without context and that is indicative of an individual with tunnel vision. I really will not get into childish rants with you as it is about time you stop quoting and start “thinking”. That is the greatest flaw in our education system. We produce “quoters” instead of thinkers and innovators. I am still at a loss as to why any SENSIBLE Jamaican would have been against the bauxite levy instituted in the 70s!!
Sam Sharpe, when scholars write papers they quote to validate their points. People who know me, know that I am a great thinker. However, Sam Sharpe I am a very rational facts driven person, when journalists write they quote. People should do their research and learn to quote instead of forming uninformed opinions. For example, politicians who supported the austerity gospel; often quoted the Reinhart and Rogoff study
