How did Columbia recover from brink to prosperity in 10 yrs, lessons for Jamaica ?

Ten years ago, when one spoke about Columbia, the first thing that came to mind was Bogota the murder capital of the world, then you reflect on the Cali Cartel and Cocaine.

Columbia was on the brink of being declared a failed state, but somehow the country leaders were able to turn the fortunes around and now Columbia is reaping the rewards for its efforts.

What can Jamaica learn from the Columbia’s experience and how as citizens we can help force the change we require . which will allow Jamaica to fulfill its true potential.

Listen carefully the Trade Minister.

Note what was the basis for the recovery of the country ” SECURITY”

We should send Anthony Hylton  and Peter Bunting and a team of security experts to Columbia for 6 month to learn from these guys, who have been able to make a remarkable recovery.

I hope someone passes this unto the Prime Minister and the PNP Government.

We need a game changer NOW !

  1. Jamaica is being held back because its citizenry are split down the middle and by the politics.
Its people are easily influenced and lead by incompetent and dishonest leaders and/or commentators.

There is a lack of enough critical thinking in Jamaica and many folks even those who are classified as educated with BA/MBA etc tend to think like a horse with blinders.

The go straight down the track that is laid for them vs asking critical questions or offer an alternative to what has been stated and then exploring those possibilities.

We therefore end up doing the same things over and over again, while expecting a different result each time.

Others have been able to rattle the established principles and chart a course for themselves.

Here we have the IMF outlying a program for Jamaica and every Jamaican lining up behind and swearing on the bible that there is NO OTHER alternatives at this time.

What is the IMF prescription fails ?

I bet that has not been given any thought and that proves my point.

  2. “Security must be the first law of the [State]; otherwise, the other laws will not operate effectively.” Though not original to him, these are wise words coming through Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington, MA.
