I continue to be amazed at how things “work” here in Jamaica and was so shocked after reading an article in today’s Jamaica Gleaner. It took me a while to try and digest how a single company could purchase 114 cars at an “auction” by the Transport Authority for a total of J$483,200.
Now I am sure some of these cars maybe junk, but folks, how on earth in a auction one dealer can acquire so many cars for so little money. The Gleaner report continued…
Additionally, the auditor general pointed out that of the 205 vehicles auctioned by way of sealed bids, 17 were sold for less than the highest bids received.
In one instance, three persons submitted bids for a Toyota Corolla. The first put up $85,000, the second $50,000, and the third $61,000. However, the person with the lowest offer was the successful bidder. Bids were also made for a Suzuki, with offers ranging from $50,000 to $40,000 and a low of $20,000. At the end of the process, the lowest bidder walked away with the vehicle.
There may very well be a good explanation for this, but someone ended being a very wealthy persons from this sweet deal.
Now the report did not say who the dealer was , but I will try to determine who that was and his “links” ( unno dun know wha a mean by links).
