The PM should not fire Azan and he should not resign !

There has been widespread calls for Mr Azan to resign and or fired by the Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, but are those calls justified or simply politically motivated.

The PM should not fire Mr Azan nor should he resign, what did he do wrong?
He saw a need and did what was necessary to fill that need , what is inherently wrong with that. Politicians are elected to lead and lead they must.

Vendors were out on the streets and were causing a traffic problem.  Mr Azan as Junior Minister in the Transport and Works Ministry accepted an unsolicited proposal from a contractor to build shops for these vendors on the property of the Parish Council.

In exchange for this, (given the the PC was broke and could not afford to pay the contractor), it was agreed that rent would have been collected from the shops and paid over to the contractor over time to compensate him for his investment. This appears to be perfectly in order.

No need for the Contractor General to be involved, it was an unsolicited offer and ” this government will not accept impotence as an option. This administration
refuses to ‘allow the OCG to be a stumbling block in the engagement of private entities as the state moves to take advantage of investment opportunities”

There you have it ” monkey see, monkey do”.

Dr Davis , which is Mr Azan ‘s boss refuses to accept the notion that private bodies should not be engaged to do  and provide what the government cannot afford to do, simply because a particular process is not followed.

So Mr Azan is just doing what he sees has been done before knowing fully well that after the hot air has been blown, its business as usual.

Run wid it PNP don’t let the detractors stop you, is progress dem a try stop.

Full speed ahead , the law is NOT a shackle.

Commonsense does not necessarily agrees with the view expressed above : )

How a bout a little comedy folks, in terms tough times laughter is indeed good medicine.

Fun and joke aside, I yearn for good governance is this country

I yearn for the days when wrong will be seen for what it is and not shaded by any particular hue and dealt with as such.

Values in Jamaica have been eroding over a long time and appears to only exist in language and not otherwise ie action .

Jamaican students are struggling to deal with the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong in the country. They are quick to justify doing wrong by pointing out ” weh u a pick pon mi fah a nuh me along a dweet it, dem over deh so a do e to, so why only mi alone u a harass, go harass dem deh too nuh”.

The adults will do the  same ” JPS  a wicked, how dem expect people fi pay dem deh lite bill, we nah wuk, we have pickney fi go school, dem clothes haffi iron, we food ago spoil inna d fridge. A nuh we alone a bridge lite, nuff big man a bridge lite to but dem nah do dem nuttin, a we along dem have strentgh fah. We want justice, we want lite, a wah dem tek we fah, we nuh animal eno, we a people to, justice we want. De man fi just low d ting cuz a Jamaica dis and lite caan stop bridge”.

For those who struggle to read that, you need to grab your patios dictionary.  🙂

  1. So the Prime Minister has basically told the public to shut up, because Mr Azan will not be fired or asked to resign, he will keep his job.
Way to go Portia, comrades must always protect comrades and don’t behave like d ” green man dem” who are quick to throw each other under the proverbial bus.

Just chill out Richard nuh watch nuh face a 9 day wonder this, hol d faith you been through bigger tings that this.

By the end of d week this will be long forgotten.

  2. Portia got it right, err I mean the Cabinet and their release is almost exactly like my post which was published here at least 8hrs before. I guess I still understand the working of the PNP more than most people.

  3. Azan should be let go or resign, but it is permissable & prudent to have the OCG deliver the case, then act. He broke the rules, perhaps in his zealotry to fill an obvious need, and while I for one believe that we have boxed ourselves into a mousetrap with all our myriad of rules; they stand until they don’t and must be abided by. Nuff said.

    • The Cabinet says he should remain, his job as state minister and that as MP are distinct and separate. He acted illegally as MP and not state minister.
What a principle position by the PNP, wonderful decision by the cabinet.

  4. Prime Minister of Jamaica Portia Simpson-Miller has made a statement defending her continued silence on the Cabinet’s decision to not relieve Junior Minister Richard Azan, because of his role in the scandal involving the illegal construction of several shops at the Spalding Market in Clarendon.
The Prime Minister who was addressing a function held yesterday stated that she would not comment until an investigation by the Contractor General is completed.
“Everyone understands that an investigation is now taking place, why would I want to make a comment until i receive the report, from all the investigations now taking place”… “The time come when we should move the country ahead against personal ambitions”…all of my life is in the service of this country, not for myself, but for the people of Jamaica”.
On Monday April 14, 2013 the Cabinet says the Spalding Market issues are not directly related to the duties of Mr. Richard Azan, in his capacity as Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing.
