JLP needs to get a GOOD education in PR !

The JLP could well learn some much needed PR skills from the PNP, if they have any hopes of leading this country ever again.

The PNP has governed abysmally and yet the JLP has not found themselves in a position, where people can look over there and say” well they appear to be a party that knows what its doing and so we can look at them as an alternative”.

The JLP has been a divisive  party from a very long time and the long period where Edward Seaga led the party has served only to entrench that divisiveness  in the party.

The PNP has made so many mistakes and just when you think the JLP would pounce on that and push themselves forward as a viable alternative, you hear glass shattering at Belmont rd to signal a new fight has erupted.

If Andrew Holness cannot lead a few party members how on earth he is going to lead an entire nation. The man make the incompetent Portia Simpson Miller look like  great leader, who is able to exercise GREAT control of her party to prevent any form of public dissent.

Ok now that I have gotten that out of the way, let me point out something that is on the lips of everyone and that is the statement by Peter Bunting that ” only God can save Jamaica”. While myself and other have jumped on this and has concluded that Peter is admitting failure, the opposition spokesman on National Security , Delroy Chuck has  also joined the fray.

Now Mr Chuck who who been around a long time, should know by now that Jamaica has a deep love affair with the PNP and the only way to break that is to ” make dem gee d PNP bun” 🙂 The JLP has to fall in love with the people, to coin a phrase.

Mr Chuck in his usual role as opposition leader has pounced on the statement and suggested that what Peter Bunting has done is to virtually surrender Jamaica’s national security to the criminal elements here in Jamaica.

Mr Chuck does have a point, but what he missed in making this statement is the GRAND PR opportunity that Peter Bunting and the PNP afforded him.

What if Mr Chuck has said something to the effect

Mr Bunting we share you frustration, we share your pain, we understand the stress you are undergoing having been in the very position you have found yourself in(today) a few years ago.  We are willing to stand with you in a united effort to stamp out crime in Jamaica. We had a very serious crime issue during our last term in office and we were able to, despite all the odds put a serious dent in the crime problem. We don’t profess to have all the solutions, but we do think we are in a very good position to help you and Jamaica in this regard.

We therefore stand ready to sit with you and look at the various programs you have, add our own ideas and jointly stand before Jamaica and issue a joint nationally televised release where we will outline a single crime plan and solicit the Jamaican public help to deal decisively with with crime monster.

The opposition JLP believes that the time for “one-upmonship” is over and we must join together to take back Jamaica from the brink.  This method, we believe offers the best hope for Jamaica at this time and we look forward to working with you and your team, to beat back this monster which is impeding Jamaica’s progress.

The JLP continues to miss opportunities like these that not only allows Jamaicans to see a more caring and understanding JLP,  but as they would say in politics PR is everything, the PNP has used in effectively, while the JLP continues to ignore its importance.

  1. Re the suggested statement by Chuck, I can’t for the life of me see how that is supposed to help the JLP. The thing to note is that the JLP can’t beat the PNP in the caring and understanding stakes, at least not while Mama P is involved in politics. Should the PNP accept the JLP’s offer then what? If the strategy works then the story is stick with the PNP they will take the best ideas out there so there is no need to get the JLP involved as anything more than a source of ideas for the PNP who can then implement them as the government.

Should the JLP’s suggestion fail then the story will be that the JLP has no useful ideas either as they have already been tried, even without the JLP actually being in power.

Should the PNP reject the JLP’s ideas then there will be specific ideas in the public domain attributable to the JLP which can be attacked. And every idea, no matter how reasonable, can be attacked, from one angle or another.

    • Keep on doing more and more of the same thing over time ie showing up your opponent as incompetent and unable to come up with the varying solutions and you gain more and credibility and acceptance.

This is PSM final swan song. This is her last 3 yrs in politics before she goes into retirement.

As the headline says, create goodwill via PR.

      • Jay, that is not the nature of our politics. The respective party’s have to ensure that our Country suffers immensely first to prove their point. An article in the Gleaner indicates that Roger Clarke will not be removed as there is no capable replacement?? Chris Tufton is not a self professed farmer but he was able to address some of the deficiencies in this sector in three years while Roger had decades and did little?

  2. Ah Jay, the poor JLP. How it is that they can’t get it? You know, I just love to see Baby Bruce when “suck the oxygen” out of a crowd with his on stage dissertations and patois.

Jay, you see just like how you have it in for PSM, a same way so mi have it in fi Baby Bruce.

Mark you, I am not impressed with the PNP and its inability to take cogent policy decisions (like the tax proposals by the Private Sector Working Group, Pension Reform, etc), but the Montague et al. posse come like them have “oil of turn me off” on them.
