The morning after the murder of Mr Simpson, the bodyguard of Julian Robertson, Lady Allen was reported to have said ” When I wrote up this morning, I did not want to be a Jamaican”.
The pain and shame that many Jamaicans feel, is what is being reflected by Lady Allen comments and unlike what some bloggers believe, that statement is a truism and is far from being unpatriotic. Those folks who are compassionate about the country and the long term improvement in the lives of Jamaicans , hurt when they see what is going on and will speak out about the issues.
This is unlike many who claim to be patriotic and remains silent amidst the onslaught of devaluation, rising prices, high oil prices, rising poverty and murder and mayhem on the Jamaican people. For those persons( the feeling is) it’s better to remain silent on this issues racking the country if it’s the party you support is in power, as that would be unpatriotic, but you should raise hell if it’s not your party, which is at the helm.
The only way we are going to bring about meaningful change in Jamaica is to change the status quo, we must refuse to accept mediocrity from anyone and must be true and honest firstly to ourselves and then to those around us.
If you tell someone who is around you and close to you, the truth and they berate you and “cuss you out” as not being a friend, then you at should simply walk away, because that is not the kind of character that you want to be associated with.
This statement above does not sit well with way too many Jamaicans
Lady Allen is a true Patriot !

She was rather quiet when a hungry man was thrown in jail for “stealing” ackees. The fact that her husband has been a parasite on the public purse eludes her. Patriotism would best be exemplified by encouraging the people of Jamaica to stop spending in excess of $300 Million dollars on a anachronistic position that is irrelevant and redundant.
Sam you are “brutal” .

Hear, hear…..I agree with you 100%; she said one of the best things to have happened to her was to have been invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.
Parasites on a poor country, indeed. I don’t know if anyone has noticed how the GG has gotten fat since taking office – his cheeks are flushed, feeding off the people. Give me a break.
The other day I was driving and they nearly run me off the road to pass. Look her nuh, don’t get me started.
Had a similar incident a few years ago where a gov gen outrider was telling me to pull over because the gg was coming. I told him that the gg needs to leave on time when he has an appointment and added some choice Jamaican words and kept on driving. I will NEVER facilitate such nonsense!!
Ivor we would like to hear more from you, your views are always welcomed.
When you put on “airs” for a living, you will easily be embaRASSED. When a fellow Jamaican commits a crime, at home or abroad, i feel nothing as a Jamaican, I am empathetic to the victims because I am human, Lady whosoever and her bullshit can drop dead for all I care; other than condolences to the family cause I am sure someone loves her. I am not into the rey rey “jamicaness’ boom, I will always be a Jamaican despite citzenship elsewhere but I need no cheerleaders or downpressors, to celebrate that fact. I have never felt ashamed to be a Jamaican, NEVER!
According to Thatcher’s critics she detroyed the manufacturing sector, trade unions and communities. However, her critics do not speak about the crippling effects which corrupt trade unions that served the interest of greedy public servants had on the economy. They do not tell you that the coal mines and other state agencies were extremely inefficient, hence they were privatized. Thatcher, inherited an economy which was suffering from high inflation, low levels of productivity and anaemic growth. The average European economy was 10-15 percent ahead of Britain and the working class accounted for 67% of the population. By the time she left office it was 51%. In addition, the savings rate increased, London became a finacial city, the economy expanded and the debt-to- gdp ratio was reduced. Median incomes also grew at a more rapid pace during her tenure, when compared to John Major and Tony Blair. Even Blair was influenced by Thatcher and according to the Sun, most Britons see her as Britain’s best post wartime leader. Margaret Thatcher rescued Britain from tyranny and laziness. I know a lot of people who hate Thatcher, including the former wife of Scargill. However, I will not allow their misguided views to influence my opinion. She condemned Apartheid, but she was not a fan of Nelson Mandela. In the latter years, their relationship became more amicable. I would like to add Wilmot Perkins, Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman to that list. People like Margaret Thatcher have an aggressive persona however their legacies speak for them. People like Lady Allen claim that they love the poor but their legacy will tell you that they did nothing to help them.

Lady Allen comments were ill advised and quite rash, perhaps she should have thought more carefully about what she was going to say before she spoke, but to be quite frank I’ve heard others say the exact same thing before, the only difference is that she was dumb enough to say so in public for the entire country to hear and critcize but her views are far from novel or original. We must also remember that Lady Allen is not a public official, she’s only married to one as such I see no reason to make this about Queen or GG or republic or anything that is totally irrelevant at this time. Lady Allen during her years as teacher, nurse and later working at the West Indies Union Confernce spent a number of years working on various charitable intiatives working especially with young Children and the elderly, some of which she continues to patronise even after becoming the GG’s consort, so I wouldn’t say she has done nothing to help the ordinary people of Jamaica. she spoke out of frustration as many people often tend to do a level head and less critical speech would have suited her better apparently political correctness is not her strong suit.
