Mr Bunting ” Robbery or Burglary is NOT a MINOR Issue” !

Peter Bunting in an interview on CVM over the  alleged hold up incident in Portland , dismissed the report as not true, but it was his next statement, which had me concerned and after not seeing anything in main stream media I decided to comment on it more.

In trying to play down the “robbery” Mr Bunting said ” This was a minor issue”

Does our Minister of National Security believes that robbery is a minor issue ?

Does he believes that robbery of his American friends is a minor issue?

Or does he believes that a robbery that involves him is a minor issue?

Or does he believes robbery is a minor issue once the stolen items are recovered ?

Some folks may say well here goes alarmist Jay again, but I would beg to differ and here is why.

The Minister of National Security is our top crime fighting policy maker in the country and his views and or position sets the tone for law enforcement officials. In keeping with that, once Mr Bunting makes that particular  statement , (which me made in a telephone interview) and  while many Jamaicans may think ” a nuh nuttin”, its a big deal for me in a country beset by lawlessness and criminality.

How can the Minister of National Security seriously believes that a robbery (or burglary as he chooses to call it) is a MINOR issue. What reaction does he now expect from law enforcement officials, when they are called for robbery( or burglary). Knowing our policemen, I would not be surprised if in the next few days John Public will tell you they called such and such a station to report a robbery and the police said ”  A nuh nuttin dat, dat a minor ting. we have bigga tings fi deal wid, go call such and such and make u report”

So here is the irony in Peter Bunting views, it was later reported that the cops worked “throughout” the night and many of the items were later recovered.

So while Peter is glossing  over the issue as a minor one, he ensured ( don’t want to suggest he instructed) the cops toiled throughout the night to recover the stolen items, in what was a MINOR incident.

You guys can spin all you want Peter, but your assertions are not consistent with the actions that have been taken since this incident !

I therefore leave it to the public to figure out if the truth is being told here.

PS. Roger Clarke you corner dark because your struggle to address predial larceny has just gotten tougher by virtue of Peter Buntings statement to the media.

  1. This is what happens when Mr. Bunting tells the police to concentrate on harrassing motorists to bring in revenue, everything else goes to “hell in a hand basket”. There are so many traffic stops that the police actually bring chairs and a table to set up a mini ticket writing operation (I witnessed this with my own eyes). In the interim, every other person I meet tells me about a stick up/juk down by a petty criminal. I, personally, would like to congratulate the thieves, they couldn’t have chosen a better person!

  2. Prime Minister summons her National Security Minister to meeting and we are told she is very “angry” with him over this incident.

  3. Connect the dots. There is a lot of egg on his face. Not because he was robbed… but rather the circumstances that caused him to be robbed

    • AGREE! Thats just it – he’s embarrassed because of the situation and he’s embarrassed because he’s the MINISTER OF SECURITY!!!!

      • For those who are not in the know, could you or cullCull enlighten us as to what these embarrassing situation(s) and/or circumstances are? The Police high command has made it public that the Minister was in no danger, had no direct contact with the suspect and that the suspect was in the room for over 5-hours. This whole thing appears to be a non-issue, don’t you think?

  4. Peter Bunting’s “robber” sentenced to two years

    Wow, was that FAST
