Starting today Jamaicans will begin paying increase tax rate on their properties and this is just beginning as come later in the years, taxes are set to rise further following the revaluation process that is currently taking place. I decided to look around at taxes where I know Jamaicans love to reside and I must say in terms of Ja $ equivalent , these taxes are pretty hefty.
Just take a look at the names here and the taxes paid .

Thats what you call hefty. LOL. You seriously have no idea what you are talking about. I have long advocated that property taxes should be increased from their comically low rates in Jamaica. Do I agree with their significant jump this year? No! I think they should have phased it in at 20% per year over 3 years and pass legislation that gives homeowners 3 years to pay BUT auctions off receivables after 18 months and allows investors to buy liens on the property. After 3 years, the property belongs to the lien holder. If the property owner wants to pay the monies owed, they have to pay the lienholder + a statutory fee for the lienholders investment, akin to BOJ rates + an agreed upon points.
I am currently paying US$100/year on my home in Jamaica which is significantly bigger than my home in the USA(over 2000sq. ft more & no I live in a fairly large home in the US). I don’t want to leggo all of my business but lets just say that I pay more than 2000% more!! For that I expect services and likewise if I paid that much in JA, I would expect major services. But I don’t pay that much so if I can get my garbage picked up, mail delivered, roads kept in decent condition & police to respond when I need them- I would be getting way more than I put in!!~!! Jamaican people need to wake the hell up. They bitch & moan about eveything under the sun as if prices only go up in Jamaica; yet they expect the world while they do eveything possible to not pay Caesar his due; when they have to. That means bringing in all kinds of things at the airport fi dis ya one and dat dey one, avoiding paying the ridiculously low licensing & registration fees, GCT, income tax, etc, etc, etc. By the way, my transportation costs have gone up to US$500/month over the last 10 years from US$150/month. Please let me know whether I can go bitch at the PNP or JLP about that because my local politicians don’t give a damn! I mean they must be corrupt, uncaring, dumb pos’s since my costs have increased so much while my pay has not kept up, and they are not taking any paycuts while driving fancy SUV’s; unlike JAMAICA!
