We have received reports of a significant increase in the number of Jamaicans fleeing the shores of Jamaica mainly for the USA and in particular Florida.
It’s being said they are moving to escape the very harsh economic conditions here in Jamaica and brings back memory of the mass migration which occurred in the 1970’s. Its not only people who are leaving, the US$ is also flying out of the Country.
I know of at least one multinational company, which operated a USA account here in Jamaica and in the recent past has taken a decision that they will be moving that account out of Jamaica and they did. There is a growing lack of confidence in this administration, as not only are they not speaking to the people on the issues, but the few times they chose to do so, its a lot of misinformation or misrepresentation of the facts.
The PM I was told by one executive ” does not inspire confidence at all, she may be a good persons in her heart, but an extremely poor leader”. A good leader in a time of crises takes charge, they may not have to know all the answers, but what they are supposed to do is to be sufficiently informed that they can speak from a point of authority, then have the others provide the fine details and PSM is not there as yet.
He went unto to suggest , that she may never get there and the party’s decision to continue to “shield” her from the media is doing more harm than good.
Calling on Jamaicans to make sacrifice has been going on for far too long and despite the “belt tightening, there is really not much to show for it, so why even continue.
“Jay, he said,There are many of us out there who truly loves Jamaica and were willing to do whatever it would take to make this place better for Jamaicans, but I am exhausted. We give these guys ideas, free advise, free consultation, best practices that work in other jurisdiction similar to us and even some that works well in the corporate world and what have they done with them?”
Many of my peers are leaving as it does not seem anything will change in Jamaican anytime soon, we seem to go from one crises to the next and I see nothing to suggest anything will change either. I have not taken that decision to plug the plug as yet, but its on the table.
My brother and his family left last year having recognized the direction that things were headed in and an unwillingness to tighten his belt anymore. Since he has left he has meet quite a number of other Jamaicans who also decided they too had seen enough to tell them it time to get the heck out of what was becoming a “failed state”.
When will the Portia Simpon Miller led administration “man up” and admit, that they are clueless and without a plan or direction to get us out of this mess and ask for real help. Will they continue to use the extensive PR machinery at their disposal to tell us the sky is blue, when we clearly can see nothing but gray clouds ?
Will Jamaicans continue to be blinded by the PR stuff?
It reminds me of the Ponzi schemes in Jamaica, when it was clear as daylight that not only were the schemes not viable but failing, but Jamaicans continued to pump billions into the schemes because Carlos Hill etal gave some very good speeches and were looking out for poor people.
Even today, 6 yrs later many believe that Carlos Hill and other were good people and harbour thoughts of being repaid monies invested in these schemes.
The PNP administration reminds me of the operators of these schemes, promising a lot and delivery little but kept using an effective PR machinery to forward their cause.
