Zeeks’ Money Muddle – Did The PNP Bail Out Its Former Strongman?

This is  a rather troubling question being posed by the Gleaner.

Under a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration, convicted killer Donald ‘Zeeks’ Phipps dropped his attempt to get back approximately $24 million which the police had seized at his house after the State challenged his claim.

Under a People’s National Party (PNP) administration, Zeeks renewed his application for the refund of the money and the State dropped its challenge.

  1. Jay, was this the only story about a political party in the Gleaner today? I hope you will resist the temptation of turning this blog (with high potential) into just a partisan political sponge.

That being said , this story shows how partisan our judicial system could be. We need one set of laws for everyone, everytime in Jamaica. I dont know who is at fault in this one, the JLP or the PNP?

  2. What happen to the ‘Don’ out East? He hasn’t been heard from since 2007. Is he still overseas?

  3. No mention was made of the $17 Million dollars that went missing? Is it possible that Zeeks was paid twice?? Just a damn shame that AG dept had two different positions based on partisan politics. The Jamaican people will once again foot the bill.

  4. Is the Gleaner consistent with this story?

Gleaner August 1, 2012 – Govt ordered to return the money (and I find this part in the article interesting) “They were subsequently freed of unlawful possession of the money after the director of public prosecutions decided not to prosecute the case.”

FID ordered by the court to return the money in three months. Oct 23, 2012 http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20121023/lead/lead1.html

  5. Did the AG of Jamaica facilitate Zeeks obtaining his money ?
Why was the Lotto scam legislation passed just days after Zeeks money was returned ?

Part of the new laws requires the accused to prove his source of income if it is deemed his lifestyle does not fit into his earning profile . This addresses more than scamming as it will be applicable all persons who find themselves with unexplained wealth.

Was it a coincidence therefore that the lawyer applied for the monies to be returned and the there was no contest and the money returned days before a new law was passed that would have not facilitated such a process.

Conspiracy theory by Jay or reality ?

    You can decide !

    • Jay, I think you should read the links I posted and you will find all the answers to your questions. The lotto scam legislation was passed this week, oh yesterday to be exact. When was Zeeks money returned? Final payments according to the gleaner – October 2012. I say Jay’s conspiracy theory.
