Jessie Jackson Jnr faces possible jail time for misuse of public funds !

By now , most person who follow the news, would have heard that Jessi Jackson Jnr and wife are facing prison time for the misuse of over US$700K of public funds.

Back home in Jamaica, the misuse of public funds means absolutely noting and is really par for the course. We hear of a government member racking up $1m in phone calls while in London last year and whats the outcome, nothing.

We hear of a government member using the government issued credit card to rack up huge personal expenses, outcome nothing.

We have government members issuing companies to which they are connect construction contracts and what’s the outcome, you guessed it nothing.

We had a government minister who stole millions of dollars of light bulbs and enriched himself in the process and what was the out after 7 yrs, pending !

We had a government which collect US$300K from a company its does business and what was the outcome, nothing.

Jamaicans really could not give a damn about good governance, well at least not here in Jamaica and so we get what we expect ie a high level of corruption right throughout the length and breath of Jamaica. Its like a cancer eating away at society and no cure appears in sight and I have the feeling that the vast majority of Jamaicans, don’t mind the system remaining the way it is.

Those who choose to be clean , avoid corruption and pay taxes are treated like plagues and are reward by the imposition of more and more taxes by our tax hungry government. Those who are corrupt and pay no taxes are given a free ride on the backs of the few who pays.

In Jamaica, if you follow the rules, you stand a very good chance of not making it. If you chose however not to follow the rules, you are likely to be reward for ” beating the system”.

Beating the system has become a past time in Jamaica just like playing dominoes.

Can Jamaica really become a better place?

Yes it can, but it will take an enormous effort and at least 3 generations to reverse the warped mindset of the average Jamaican.

  1. The Gleaner is abusing pigs, with the depiction!

  2. Lets see what will be the outcome here as well – discharging one’s weapon in public? Someone could have been killed.
