Dr Omar Davis has indicated that so far he has received no reports of impropriety in the implementation of the controversial JDIP program by the forensic auditor. He has however indicated that the process has not yet completed, but nothing has found yet to indicate any wrong doing.
In relation to the trailer of furniture that was ordered ($60m) , we were told by Dr Omar Davis that the furniture have been unloaded and are being distributed to the various government ministries including the Ministry of Transport and Works.
Dr Davis has reported that nothing amiss was found in these containers and it appears that what was ordered was what has been recieved and a such a decision was taken that the furniture should be put into use according to the original intent, when they were ordered.
Now you will recall that the Contractor General had gone unto the premises of the NWA and demanded the keys to the containers of furniture, after it was reported that there may have been some impropriety involved in the acquisition of the furniture . It was also reported that the containers may have contained stuff other than what may have been ordered by the NWA.
It now appears, given Dr Davis pronouncement thus far, that wool have been pulled over the eyes of Jamaicans and a scandal was created, where none actually existed, thus fooling up the Jamaica populace once again.
Given what we have so far, it appears we may have just wasted millions of dollars, that we do not have, simply to chase a ghost and carry out a political promise that was made on the election trail.
Now we have also learnt that roads and bridges that were close to completion ( up to 80%) have been halted, resulting in major damages to some of these roads by the recent flood rains. Given that May and June are rain months, it means these roads are likely to be damaged further, washing away millions that have already been spent. Given this fact, the cost of these roads are likely to increase by up to 50% ie a 50% overrun in the cost of these roads by this as a result of the extremely poor judgment by those who have been given the responsibly to ensure that every $ we spend is done so in the most efficient manner possible.
How much longer can we continue such policies of waste in the public sector, we need to focus on the process of issuing and monitoring of contracts vs wasting money after the contracts have been issued and completed, to now go back as see if something went wrong.
We must ensure that our public officials are working in the best interest of the country because we cannot continue to spend twice to do the same job, simply because we refuse to complete a job that may have been started by the previous party and start a new project that has the signature of the current party, whichever party currently happens to be in government.
